Leeds United star is unhappy with the decision the club made over the summer.

The Whites did not allow one of their players to feature in the Olympics, which has made him upset.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Junior Firpo wanted to represent Dominican Republic at the Olympics but Leeds United did not allow the player to take part in the competition.

The player has claimed that he tried till the end to convince the club to allow him to leave.

“It was hard, I tried until the last day but they told me that since I was an important player, one of the leaders and captains, they needed me at the beginning of preseason because the clubs close their business in the preseason and I was one of the keys, I was telling them that for me it was going to be something unique but it wasn’t possible,” he said.

Firpo is a crucial member of the Leeds United side and manager Daniel Farke did not want to take any risk.

The manager wanted to save the player from possible injuries and he wanted him to have a proper pre-season ahead of the new season.

Firpo has featured in all the matches for his club this season and he will keep on doing that under Farke.

The Leeds faithful will be hoping that the player can contribute to their success this season and help them win promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United failed to win promotion to the Premier League and that has created uncertainty surrounding the future of many players.

Some of their best players left the club this summer to play in the Premier League.

Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter left for the top flight in England and if the Whites fail to win promotion again this season, more players could leave them.

Goalkeepr Illan Meslier now wants to know if he will be allowed to leave the club next summer if they fail to win promotion to the Premier League.

The former French U21 International is demanding a release clause to be inserted in his contract at the club.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, as quoted by Marching On Together:

“The 49ers enterprise’s approach is very much that their hands have been a bit tied contractually, and anyone that they negotiate with, they want to try and remove that clause.

“But of course, from the player’s point of view, if you knew the clause existed for others, or you signed a new long-term deal, and I think this is particularly the case, from what I hear, with Meslier.

“The player may want to protect themselves against the fact that if Leeds don’t go up, they’re stuck on a long-term deal, and maybe they feel their development is elsewhere. So it’s a balancing act.”

It is not a surprise to see Meslier looking to secure his future, like players in the past have done at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke has a big job at his hands this season and another failure to win promotion to the Premier League might be the end of his project at the club.

Leeds United are set for a major boost following the international break with the returns of Daniel James and Patrick Bamford.

James scored in Leeds’ 2-0 win over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the end of August but sat out their last match against Hull City — with United winning by the same scoreline in his absence.

Bamford, meanwhile, suffered from various fitness issues throughout pre-season and has been restricted to just 22 minutes across two substitute appearances in the Championship this season — missing the Sheffield Wednesday and Hull games.

Leeds United set for double fitness boost

Leeds have looked much improved in recent weeks, taking seven points from their last three games without conceding a goal. That comes after the Whites drew their first Championship game of the season 3-3 at home to Portsmouth before being thrashed 3-0 at Elland Road by Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup.

Up next is a home clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

While it’ll be a challenging fixture, Leeds are unbeaten in their last five matches against the Clarets across all competitions.

And their hopes of another important victory will be boosted by the return of both James and Bamford.

James missed the international break with Wales due to a knock. However, Leeds Live

have reported that both he and Bamford will at the very least be fit enough to make the bench this coming weekend.

Bamford would be unlikely to start even if he were fully fit but can provide a change of approach from the bench, while James’ pace and threat in the final third will prove a valuable weapon for Daniel Farke.

Leeds United attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson was singled out for criticism by the American press after the USMNT were dealt a surprise 2-1 defeat by rivals Canada.

Aaronson has been in fine form at Elland Road so far this season, providing some spark in Daniel Farke’s side after clearly benefiting from last season’s loan spell at Union Berlin.

The 23-year-old was not at his best for his national side last night, however, getting just a 3/10 with Soccer America.

That was his worst rating, but he didn’t fare a great deal better elsewhere, with NBC Sport giving him just a 4.5/10.

Aaronson will need to do better if he is to stay a regular part of the national side, while Leeds fans will also hope this doesn’t negatively impact his club form.

LUFC will be one of the favourites to win promotion this season after narrowly missing out last term, and keeping players like Aaronson fit and in form will surely be key to going up.

Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto has been linked with a move away from the club.

The 20-year-old Italian has impressed since his move to the Championship outfit and he is on the radar of Genoa and Parma, as per Milan Live.

Both Italian clubs are looking to improve their attacking unit and Gnonto would be a long-term addition for them.

However, Leeds will not want to lose a prodigious young talent like him. His departure would be a major blow for the Championship giants.

Leeds will be desperate for promotion to the Premier League this season. They cannot afford to weaken their squad. They will need to hold on to their best players in order to do well this season and finish in the automatic promotion places.

Meanwhile, the opportunity to move to Italy could be tempting from Gnonto. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Leeds came close to securing promotion last season and they will not want to miss out this time around. Missing out on promotion last season resulted in them losing a number of key players to other clubs.

In addition to that, Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in the country and they are expected to compete in the top flight regularly.

It will be interesting to see if they can hold on to the attacker for now.

Wilfried Gnonto linked with January exit

Parma and Genoa want to sign him during the January transfer window. It remains to be seen whether they come forward with an official offer to sign the player midway through the season.

Losing a key player in January can be a devastating blow. Leeds will struggle to replace him midway through the season. Clubs will not want to sell top players in the middle of a season.

Leeds must do everything in their power to hold on to their key attacker.

Leeds United lost several of their big stars during the summer transfer window and with the market not opening again until January, pundit Frank McAvennie believes the Yorkshire club will use that window to sign a top talent of their own.

Leeds came so close to a Premier League return last season as Daniel Farke’s team were defeated in the Championship play-off final by Southampton.

Victory in that match may have seen Leeds keep the majority of their best players but instead, the Whites saw Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter all move to the Premier League.

This has weakened Farke’s squad and has resulted in a mixed start to the current campaign as Leeds currently sit fourth in the Championship table having won two and drawn two of their opening four games.

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Scotland international Frank McAvennie believes the Yorkshire club has a good starting eleven but beyond that, they lack the quality needed to challenge for the Championship title.

With winning the league being the goal for Leeds this season, the pundit believes the Whites are certain to sign a player in January.

“They’ve got a good 11, 12, 13 players”, McAvennie said. “When you go outside that if people get injured, at the moment, everyone is happy everyone is playing and they all want to get back to the Premier League.

“That’s great if they can keep these players fit, if you can stop them from getting injured.

“The manager is a clever guy, he’ll have everyone working and the boys that come in will just have to do a job until January.

“I guarantee they’ll buy someone in January.”

Leeds will have no plans for January made up at present but it will be interesting to see what they do when the time comes.

Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing the Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing during the January transfer window.

According to Gune Bakis, the 28-year-old Danish midfielder is on the radar and it remains to be seen whether the Championship outfit decide to make a move for him in the coming months.

Billing has been a key player for the Cherries since joining them in 2019 for a fee of around £15 million. The midfielder has picked up 31 goals and 20 assists since moving to Bournemouth and he could be an important player for Leeds United as well.

Clubs in Turkey are keen on signing the 28-year-old midfielder as well, and it will be interesting to see if they manage to get a deal done for the midfielder before the summer window closes. The summer transfer window in Turkey closes on 13th September and they have a few days to pull off the transfer.

Philip Billing would be a superb addition

Leeds will certainly hope that Billing stays with the Cherries for now and joins them in January. They will be desperate to secure promotion to the Premier League this time around and they need quality players at their disposal.

The 28-year-old midfielder will add creativity, goals, drive and physicality to their midfield. He could be a superb addition for Leeds during the second half of the season and he could galvanise the team.

Billing has shown his quality in the Premier League with the Cherries and there is no doubt that he is good enough for the Championship as well. Leeds need more quality and depth at their disposal in order to return to the English top flight. The Bournemouth star could prove to be a transformative addition for them.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds can agree on a reasonable fee with the Cherries for the experienced midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January.

After the summer transfer window ended, Leeds United are now focusing on the contract stiuation of some of their players.

They have already tied Wilfried Gnonto to a new four year contract at the club, showing their desire to keep the best players at the club after the loss of some key members this summer.

The likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter left the club to play in the Premier League this summer.

It is now crucial that the Whites keep their best players at the club to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Despite Patrick Bamford’s struggles with injuries and form, the club still want to hand him a new contract and keep him at Elland Road.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that the Championship club see Bamford’s contract as a priority situation.

He told GiveMeSport:

“I think 49ers Enterprises may wait a little bit longer with one or two, to try and put themselves in a stronger negotiating position. And therefore we may not see a flurry of renewals, as per Willy Gnonto in the next few days or weeks.

“Bamford, I’m told, is a priority, though, and he’s willing to extend and has never had an issue playing in the Championship compared to other options. He’s very loyal to Leeds, he doesn’t want to go anywhere at this stage.

“The consideration there will be whether he can stay fit and whether Leeds wish to offer a long-term contract, knowing that he’s had so many unfortunate problems with injuries.”

It is surprising to see the loyalty that the club have shown in Bamford, despite the player not giving them what they expect from him.

Farke will be hoping that the player can find his best form soon and guide them back to the Premier League again.

Leeds United have a number of their players busy on international duty.

The Championship club have Manor Solomon, Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Karl Darlow, Charlie Crew, Mateo Joseph and Max Wober all playing for their country on different levels.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke will be hoping that his players return fit from the international break.

Among the Leeds players, the player who received the most praise is Wober.

The player, who has not featured for Leeds this season, received playing time for Austria and impressed for his country.

According to the Salzburger Nachrichten, the player impressed with his performance against Slovenia in a 1-1 draw.

He was called one of his team’s best players with his defensive ability on show and his intent while in possession of the ball impressing the viewers.

SN wrote:

“Maximilian Wöber. Defended boldly and actively as usual. So asserted himself against the Slovenians. Also tried to move forward. Strong.”

The player, despite not getting minutes to play recently, is happy at the club and wants to prove himself at Leeds United.

He has admitted his desire to stay at the club and compete for a place in the starting line up.

His good form will give the manager a positive headache and another option that he can utilise in the near future.

Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto has drawn criticism after being spotted on his phone while sat on the bench during Italy U21’s 7-0 win over San Marino on Thursday.

Gnonto wore the captain’s armband during the first half of the Azzurrini’s thrashing of minnows San Marino in Latina, maintaining their unbeaten record in U21 Euro qualifying after eight games.

The 20-year-old put in a bright performance with eight of his nine attempted dribbles completed, while he hit two shots on target and created two chances.

Gnonto watched the second half from the bench after being replaced by Frosinone forward Giuseppe Ambrosino, seemingly picking up a knock from a heavy San Marino tackle.

However, the Leeds winger drew the ire of Corriere dello Sport editor Ivan Zazzaroni when he was pictured sat alongside two of his teammates looking at his phone, rather than watching the rest of the match.

Zazzaroni said Gnonto was ‘totally distracted by the magic of the iPhone’ and criticised the youngster for browsing ‘social media’ or reading a ‘message from his girlfriend’.

The moment was described as ‘Football 3.0’ by Zazzaroni, with Gnonto clearly touching a raw nerve of the Italian journalist.

Italy U21 boss Carmine Nunziata will likely be making sure Gnonto’s phone stays in the dressing room for his side’s next match away in Norway on Tuesday.
