West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek asked Czech Republic manager Ivan Hasek to wait outside the dressing room while he berated his teammates following their 4-1 humiliation against Georgia.

The Czechs were humiliated in their UEFA Nations League B Group 1 opener against Euro 2024 surprise package Georgia.

Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Giorgi Chakvetadze, Georges Mikautadze and Giorgi Kochorashvili fired Georgia into a 66th-minute 4-0 lead in Tbilisi.

Viktoria Plzen midfielder Lukas Kalvach was able to pull a goal back for the visitors but it proved scant consolation on an embarrassing night for the Czech Republic — who also suffered Euro 2024 disappointment over the summer, exiting at the group stage with just one point.

Tomas Soucek reacts at the end of the UEFA Euro 2024 Group F football match between the Czech Republic and Turkey at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg on June 26, 2024.

According to a report from Sportweb, Czech Republic captain Soucek asked manager Hasek to wait outside the dressing room while he let his teammates know exactly what he thought of their performance.

Soucek himself hinted that such a meeting took place during his post-match interview.

“A big but short speech took place. We still have a lot to say, because we cannot play for the Czech national team like this,” Soucek said (via GIVEMESPORT).

The 211-time West Ham star added: “Other boys also had something to say to the team. Say your opinion on how to play for the national team. Mistakes can be made, but the second thing is responsibility and doing your best, which is an obligation.

“We often behaved like pupils and the opponent counter-attacked. That’s why we had something to say and will definitely say more. But I still believe that this team has the strength to advance to the World Cup. But we can’t play like this, then we don’t even deserve to be in Group B of the Nations League. It wouldn’t work that way!”

The Czech Republic will look for an immediate improvement when they host Ukraine in Prague on Tuesday evening.

Ronald Koeman has given his seal of approval for Memphis Depay’s move to Brazilian side Corinthians.

The former Manchester United and Barcelona striker is on the verge of sealing a shock move to Timão after his contract at Atletico Madrid expired over the summer.

Koeman has caused controversy in recent weeks by omitting Steven Bergwijn from the Netherlands national team after he signed for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad; calling the former Spurs forward’s case a ‘closed book’.

“It’s clear that this has nothing to do with sportive ambition. His book with the Dutch National Team is closed,” Koeman said of Bergwijn’s move.

“He probably knows that I would have said this.”

Bergwijn — who played 83 times for Spurs between 2020 and 2022, scoring eight goals — responded by saying he had no interest in playing under Koeman anyway and that the manager was in danger of ‘losing his credibility’.

Koeman gives Memphis Depay free pass for Brazil move

Memphis Depay of Netherlands during the UEFA EURO 2024 semi-final match between Netherlands and England at Football Stadium Dortmund on July 10, 2024 in Dortmund, Germany.

Depay — who scored seven goals in 53 appearances for Man Utd between 2015 and 2017, arriving at Old Trafford for £31m from PSV Eindhoven (per BBC Sport) — has been given much more favourable treatment by Koeman.

The former Everton and Southampton boss says the 98-time international could return to the Oranje picture as he regards the Brazilian Serie A as a better league than the Saudi Pro League.

“I disapproved Bergwijn to Saudi, with Memphis can be different,” Koeman was quoted as saying by CaughtOffside columnist and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.

“The level of the league in Brazil is different. So yes, Depay can still be part of the national team but it depends on his fitness and if he still reaches his level.”

England captain Harry Kane is set to become the 10th player to earn a landmark 100 caps for the Three Lions against Finland at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night and the striker is “extremely proud” of the achievement.

The Bayern Munich striker is one of the best players England has ever produced and that is backed up by his sensational goal record. Across the 562 club matches he has featured in throughout his career, the 31-year-old has netted 353 times alongside a further 91 assists.

For his national team, Kane is England’s all-time top scorer with 66 goals in 99 internationals and his achievements with the Three Lions will continue on Tuesday as the former Tottenham star will receive his 100th cap.

The FA will pay tribute to the striker before the UEFA Nations League fixture against Finland with a special pre-match ceremony that will include the presentation of a gold cap.

Kane is the first player to become an England men’s centurion since Wayne Rooney reached the milestone in November 2014.

Peter Shilton leads the way with 125 caps and that is a landmark achievable by the 31-year-old but for now, the Bayern Munich star is “extremely proud” of hitting the 100 mark.

The striker has told the press via Sky Sports: “It’s really special, I think It’s hard to sink in while you are still playing and whilst these moments come.

“This is one I am extremely proud of. I think it shows great consistency over a long period of time. When you look at some of the other players who have achieved it, they are some of our greatest-ever players, so It is something I am really excited for.

“I’ll have my family there to enjoy the moment as well. I think for sure, that moment when I am retired, I’ll probably look back on it with immense pride.”

Cristiano Ronaldo broke Scottish hearts on Sunday night as the legendary forward scored a late winner to help Portugal to a 2-1 win over Scotland in their UEFA Nations League clash.

The beginning of the match didn’t go to plan for Portugal as Roberto Martinez’s men fell behind in the clash courtesy of an early Scott McTominay goal but found a way back during the second 45 minutes courtesy of a Fernandes strike from outside of the box.

As the game looked to be heading towards a draw, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up for his nation to grab a late winner in the 88th minute.

The Portugal captain latched onto a Nuno Mendes cross to send the home fans wild as his team start off their Nations League campaign with two wins from two.

The goal was Ronaldo’s second winner of this international break having done the same against Croatia on Thursday night.

Joshua Zirkzee opened his senior international account for the Netherlands on Saturday night, but the Manchester United striker still thinks there’s room to improve his performance.

Zirkzee made just his third Oranje appearance and his first from the start as the Netherlands kicked off their UEFA Nations League A Group 3 campaign in style, beating Bosnia-Herzegovina 5-2 in Eindhoven.

The newly-signed Manchester United striker kicked off the scoring in the 13th minute, heading home after a shot from Xavi Simons was blocked. And after Ermedin Demirovic equalised for the visitors, Zirkzee then turned provider as he set up Tijjani Reijnders to make it 2-1.

Cody Gakpo, Wout Weghorst and Simons scored the rest of the Dutch goals, while Edin Dzeko added another for Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“Yes, very proud, a proud moment,” told UEFA.com of opening his senior international account.

“My family was here, my grandparents came to watch me for the first time in a very long time, so it was a great day for all of us.

“Obviously Bosnia-Herzegovina defended in their own half and it was up to us to look for combinations and to find each other, and we could have been even more clinical today even though we did a great job. So overall I think it was OK.”

Man Utd star Zirkzee critical despite first international goal

Netherlands’ Joshua Zirkzee (L) celebrates after scoring a goal during the UEFA Nations League Group 3 football match between Netherlands and Bosnia-Herzegovina at Philips Stadion in Eindhoven on September 7, 2024.

In a later interview with Dutch TV, Zirkzee was a little more critical of his own performance.

Despite noticing a goal and an assist, the 23-year-old felt he could have helped Reijnders score another goal, while admitting he made a few errors on the night.

“It went OK, I feel like I made a couple of mistakes,” said Zirkzee (via 90min). “I could have another assist for Reijnders. We had a good ‘click’ during the game.”

Zirkzee has the chance to improve on an already impressive performance when the Netherlands host Germany in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Portugal were victorious in their UEFA Nations League clash against Scotland on Sunday night as Man United captain Bruno Fernandes scored to help Roberto Martinez’s team secure all three points.

The Portuguese fell behind in the match through an early Scott McTominay goal but found a way back into the clash during the second 45 minutes courtesy of a Fernandes goal from outside of the box.

The Man United captain struck a ball with his weaker foot which snuck into the Scotland net after a mistake from Angus Gunn.

The midfielder didn’t care how the ball went in and will be hoping to take his goalscoring abilities back to Manchester as the Red Devils need a win over Southampton next weekend.

Anthony Gordon’s second-half performance against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday has been described as ‘terrible’ by talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham.

The Three Lions beat the Boys in Green 2-0 in Dublin in Lee Carsley’s first game as interim manager following the departure of Gareth Southgate.

England’s goals came through two controversial figures, with Jack Grealish and Declan Rice — two players with famous Irish roots and experience in their youth and senior systems — deciding the match.

Gordon enjoyed a positive night in just his fifth England appearance and first competitive start for his country.

The Newcastle United winger created two chances and hit the target with all three of his attempted shots, while he completed 90% of his passes, had eight touches in the opposition box and was involved in the build-up to Rice’s opening goal.

However, most of Gordon’s best moments came before the break, with the 23-year-old fading in the second half before being brought off in the 77th minute.

Newcastle star Gordon goes from ‘terrific’ to ‘terrible’

Anthony Gordon of England is challenged by Will Smallbone of Republic of Ireland during the UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League B Group B2 match between Republic of Ireland and England at Aviva Stadium on September 07, 2024 in Dublin, Ireland.

Gordon was given a 7/10 by Durham for his player ratings.

But while the outspoken pundit credited the former Everton man for his first-half performance, he wasn’t afraid to make his feelings known about the second half.

“He was terrific in the first half but terrible in the second half,” said Durham.

Despite a supposed ‘terrible’ second half, Gordon did more than enough against Ireland to suggest he should have been given more than just one minute at Euro 2024.

He will hope to play a prominent role again when England host Finland at Wembley on Tuesday in their second UEFA Nations League B Group 2 match.

Scott McTominay scored once again for Scotland in their UEFA Nations League clash with Portugal as the midfielder showed Man United why they should have kept him this summer.

Scotland were looking to bounce back from their opening loss to Poland but suffered a cruel 2-1 defeat following a late goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.

McTominay opened the scoring on the night with a tidy header, making it 10 goals in his last 17 appearances for the Scottish national team. The 27-year-old has always stepped up for his country and his work ethic could have been useful for his former club Man United.

The midfielder left the Manchester outfit this summer to join Napoli as the Red Devils looked to bring in Manuel Ugarte from PSG while keeping the likes of Casemiro.

McTominay had his best season at Old Trafford last time around and his latest goal shows that the Premier League club may have made a mistake allowing the Scotland star to leave.

The injury suffered by Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister while playing for Argentina is believed to not be serious or worrying as the midfielder is expected to be in the squad for the Copa America winners’ next match.

Mac Allister featured for Argentina in their 3-0 win over Chile on Thursday night with the 25-year-old opening the scoring for Lionel Scaloni’s men. However, not everything went to plan for the Liverpool talent as the Argentine picked up an abductor injury.

According to the reliable Gaston Edul, the World Cup winner had some discomfort in his abductor and will train separately from the rest of the Argentina squad until Tuesday in order to be ready for their next match against Colombia.

There would have been concern from Liverpool fans about the condition of their player but according to Fabrizio Romano, Mac Allister’s injury is not serious or worrying and is expected to be fit for the Colombia game on Tuesday.

How many minutes the midfielder will receive is unknown but he is expected to play some part in the match as Argentina look to extend their lead at the top of their World Cup qualifying table.

Nyoni scored in England’s under-18s’ 2-2 draw with Portugal on Wednesday and the Reds star has found the net again against France just days later.
