The future of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool is set to be a huge topic of discussion over the coming months as the superstar’s current contract at Anfield is set to expire in 2025, however, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said that “it’s not over” between the pair.

The winger has been part of the Premier League club since completing a move from AS Roma back in 2017 and the Egyptian star has become a legendary figure at the Merseyside outfit having helped deliver every trophy on offer to fans of the Reds.

Not only this, Salah will go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever goalscorers having netted 214 times across the 352 appearances he has made on Merseyside – the fifth highest in the club’s history.

Having entered the final year of his contract, there is a chance that Salah will leave Liverpool next summer, however, Fabrizio Romano has stated that “it’s not over” between the pair.

There will be discussions over a new deal in the coming months admits the transfer expert and the decision to continue in the Premier League will come down to the club and the player once everything has been discussed.

Fabrizio Romano provides an update on Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future

Speaking on the latest episode of CaughtOffside’s The Debrief podcast, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Salah’s situation at Liverpool and has revealed that the superstar could leave Anfield in 2025 but there will be discussions over a new deal.

“I think there is still a very concrete chance to see Mo Salah leaving, but what I’m sure about is that there will be conversations. There will be negotiations with Liverpool so it’s not over between Liverpool and Salah. The situation is still very much open. So again, there is a possibility to leave for sure, but it’s not guaranteed,” the transfer journalist said.

“There will be negotiations. There will be conversations. Mo Salah is open to negotiating and discussing with Liverpool. It’s about the length of the contract and the project they have at the club. Obviously, money is also an important factor for the final big contract in the career as a football player for Mo Salah.

“There will be conversations and it will happen quite soon. In the next months, there will be conversations with Mo Salah and with his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, as they will discuss a potential new deal for Mo and they will decide all together. I think it’s going to be a club and player decision.

“They will consider all the factors involved, but from what I’m told is that as of today, it’s not over between Salah and Liverpool. There is a chance to part ways at the end of the season, but there will be conversations, there will be negotiations. So let’s see how it goes.”

Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has made it very clear that he wants to leave the club, speaking publicly about his desire to move on and start playing regularly as a number one somewhere else.

The talented Republic of Ireland international has always done well when called upon by the Reds in recent years, proving a highly reliable backup and cup competition goalkeeper, but it makes sense that he perhaps now wants something more for his career.

See below as Fabrizio Romano quotes Kelleher as making it clear he’d ideally like to join a new club, whilst suggesting that his future hasn’t always been up to him, meaning he perhaps hasn’t been allowed to pursue the kind of move he wants…

Kelleher is surely good enough to be starting regularly for a number of Premier League sides, and Liverpool should probably listen to their player now as there’s surely not much sense in keeping the 25-year-old if he’s not happy with his current role.

Liverpool have Giorgi Mamardashvili joining the club next summer after he spends one final season with Valencia, and it will be interesting to see what that means for the number one spot at Anfield.

Arne Slot currently has Alisson as first choice, but it might be that he’ll be moving on, in which case Mamardashvili will surely take over as number one.

Caoimhin Kelleher wants to leave Liverpool

If Alisson stays, then that just pushes Kelleher even further down the pecking order, so one imagines there’s simply no path for him now to become the LFC number one.

It will be interesting to see if clubs sit up and take notice of the Irishman’s comments here, as one imagines there’ll be a number of teams put on alert by the fact that he’s so clearly making himself available and giving his current employers a decision to make.

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 32-year-old attacker is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool and the two parties have not been able to secure an extension yet. He will be able to move on as a free agent if a new deal is not signed soon.

Salah will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs when the transfer window reopens in January. Liverpool must do everything in their power to tie him down to a new long-term deal before that.

The Egyptian has been exceptional for Liverpool since joining the club in 2017 and he has helped them win every major trophy. He has been in spectacular shape throughout his Liverpool career and his availability has been extremely impressive as well.

It is evident that the 32-year-old is extremely fit and he is good enough to play for the biggest clubs in the world. Even though he is 32, Liverpool should look to reward him for his performances with a new deal and keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.

He is undoubtedly the best player at the club and Liverpool simply cannot afford to lose a player of his ability, consistency and availability.

The attacker is clearly capable of performing at a world class level for a few more seasons and Liverpool will benefit from keeping him at the club.

Ian Wright on Mo Salah future

Former Arsenal striker and Premier League legend Ian Wright believes that Salah will probably want to continue at Liverpool and break records with them in the coming seasons.

“I do get the impression that he will probably like to stay at Liverpool and break records. He has got that legacy to play for,” Wright told the Premier League. “Let’s say he stays for three years. Even if he dropped off in the last year, that’s 10 years of unbelievable service.

“I believe that he will probably stay if Liverpool go about it. And I know that people get very nervy around giving contracts to people in their 30s, but I think that he’s an exception in the way that he prepares himself and plays.”

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can finalise an agreement with the player and sort out his long term future so that he can focus on his football once again.

The player recently revealed that Liverpool are yet to approach him regarding a contract extension the club hierarchy will need to get their act together and sort out his future now.

Manchester United reportedly had some fleeting discussions over the summer about the possibility of a move for alternative midfield targets such as Martin Zubimendi before prioritising Manuel Ugarte.

Zubimendi was notably a top target for Liverpool before he somewhat surprisingly turned them down, according to Relevo‘s report at the time, and now the Manchester Evening News claim that Man Utd considered the Spain international as an option as well.

The report also mentions former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot as someone the Red Devils looked at, but Ugarte was seemingly always the top priority, and that’s who ended up joining them in the end.

We’re yet to see the Uruguay international in action for United since his move from Paris Saint-Germain, but he looks like a potentially important addition, with Casemiro in dire form in the team’s last game, a 3-0 defeat at home to rivals Liverpool.

Martin Zubimendi was considered by Manchester United

Zubimendi transfer: Will we ever see him in the Premier League?

Zubimendi is a quality player, as he’s shown with his performances in La Liga, the Champions League, and with the Spanish national team at Euro 2024, so why haven’t we seen him make a big move yet?

The 25-year-old is clearly good enough to play at the very highest level, but it seems he’s also perfectly happy and settled at his current club.

In a way, it’s refreshing in the modern game to see a player showing commitment to their team, even if they have bigger opportunities elsewhere to perhaps win more trophies and make more money.

At the same time, though, Zubimendi might well look back later on his career and live to regret it if he doesn’t challenge himself at a big club like Liverpool or United, where he could surely have a positive impact in the biggest matches and earn himself some medals in the coming years.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has started his tenure at the club in fine form.

The Reds have won all three Premier League matches this season and they have done that without conceding a single goal.

When it looked like the Reds would struggle massively after the departure of Jurgen Klopp, Slot has made sure that he builds a competitive team that can challenge for the league title in his first season at Anfield.

The manager has made some big calls at the club already, not starting Darwin Nunez in any of the games and taking off right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, which made the defender unhappy with the manager’s decision.

There is another player who has been at the end of a brutal decision from the new Liverpool manager.

Centre-back Jarrel Quansah was taken off at halftime by Slot in the first match of the season against Ipswich Town.

The defender was replaced by Ibrahima Konate at halftime and Liverpool ended up winning the match 2-0.

Since then, Quansah has not started for the Merseyside club and now he has claimed that the manager’s decision to take him off was “a kick up the backside.”

He said after England U21s win against Norther Ireland, as quoted by The Mirror:

“It’s a long season, I have the whole season to prove myself.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot took off Jarrel Quansah at halftime against Ipswich Town.

“It’s given me a kick up the backside, you could say. I’ll keep grafting on the training pitch and that’s all it is. It’s never a nice feeling as a footballer to be subbed off at half-time but at the end of the day it was the gaffer’s decision and it was the right one.

“It obviously worked because we won, so I can only focus on myself, improve myself, kick forward and move on to the next game. I’m staying ready for whenever it comes.”

Due to the injury crisis at the club last season, Quansah was extensively used by Klopp.

The defender made 33 appearances for the Reds in his breakthrough season.

Liverpool defender needs more experience to perform

He was impressive most of the times but his lack of experience at the top level showed with some of his performances.

Despite being a world class defender himself, Virgil Van Dijk needs an assured presence besides him in the Liverpool defense.

Quansah has shown he has the potential to become a top defender and the early signs are good, however, he would need game time to develop and with Konate at the club, it is looking difficult at the moment.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 33-year-old central defender is in the final few months of his contract at the club and Liverpool will be desperate to hold onto him beyond 2025. He is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world and losing him would be a devastating blow for the club.

Liverpool are already lacking in depth in the central defensive unit and they simply cannot afford to lose their club captain. The defender has now handed the club a major boost by admitting that he would be open to staying at Liverpool beyond this summer.

In an interview via Mirror, the 75-cap Dutch international has confirmed that he is already planning ahead for the next two years and he would like to lead his club and country during that time. Van Dijk is also looking forward to the 2026 World Cup as well.

Van Dijk said: “At both teams I am still Virgil van Dijk, the big leader! And I certainly want to remain that for the next two years. I am human, I have emotions too. You start thinking all kinds of things. Especially just after a game like the elimination (by England) in the very last minute.

“I also understand that it came across unclear on how I stood in all this, because after the match I was so disappointed and full of emotion. It perhaps came across as if it had been my last international match. I did have doubts that night and I did hint at that.”

Virgil Van Dijk of Liverpool looks on during the Premier League match between Ipswich Town FC and Liverpool FC at Portman Road on August 17, 2024 in Ipswich, England.

Liverpool must sort out Van Dijk contract quickly

It will be interesting to see if the two parties can sort out an agreement in the coming weeks now. Keeping the Dutch international defender at the club should be one of Liverpool’s main priorities. He is an indispensable asset for them, and he is also the leader of the group.

Van Dijk seems to be enjoying his football under Arne Slot and he will hope to guide Liverpool to a successful season this year. The Reds have started the season well with three wins in three league matches and they are yet to concede the single goal.

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has entered the final year of his contract with the club.

The defender has been linked with a move away from the club with Real Madrid mentioned as his next possible destination.

Following the departure of Jurgen Klopp from Anfield and the player’s current contract situation, he has been linked with the Champions League winners.

Alexander-Arnold has started the new season in fine form after his failure to cement a place in the starting line up for England at Euro 2024.

However, with his form and performances this season, he has shown why Gareth Southgate made a mistake not starting him for the Three Lions this summer.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has discussed the future of the right-back and why he would be the ideal signing for the Spanish giants.

While talking to Simon Jordan and Troy Deeney on the Up Front Podcast, Souness delivered his verdict.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold is tailor-made for Real Madrid in the way he plays, he has an incredible style,” Souness said.

Trent Alexander-Arnold Liverpool Real Madrid
Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool has been linked with Real Madrid.

“Not to mention, he is good friends with Jude Bellingham. He could end up at Real Madrid. He would only leave Liverpool for Real Madrid,” Souness added.

If Real Madrid can manage to sign the Liverpool star for free, it would be one of their best bit of business.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the English defender, who has been a key member of the club’s successful team under former manager Klopp.

Liverpool right-back would fit like a glove at Real Madrid

Los Blancos are looking for a new right-back with Dani Carvajal not the same player as he was before and Alexander-Arnold would be his ideal replacement due to his attacking playing style.

Liverpool cannot afford to lose the right-back any time soon and particularly not for free.

He is one of their most prized assets and even if he decides to leave, it should get Liverpool a hefty amount of money.

The lure of Real Madrid is difficult to avoid and if by January the defender has still not signed a new contract at Anfield, the La Liga giants could engage in talks with the player to unite him with his friend Jude Bellingham at Santiago Bernabeu.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is reportedly open to staying in Europe despite transfer rumours linking him with clubs in the Saudi Pro League as he nears the end of his contract with the Reds.

The Egypt international has been a star player for Liverpool for many years now, winning major honours such as the Premier League and the Champions League, and netting a remarkable 214 goals in 352 games for the Merseyside giants in total.

Salah has his admirers in Saudi Arabia, but it seems he’s also attracted enquiries from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus after he recently made it clear this would be his final season at Liverpool, with the player still open to staying in Europe for a while longer, according to a report from El Nacional.

The 32-year-old might not be at the very peak of his career right now, but he remains a world class talent and doesn’t seem to be showing much sign of slowing down, so could perhaps emulate someone like Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still going strong even as he approaches his 40th birthday.

Mohamed Salah to PSG or Juventus?

Salah transfer: Could Liverpool star move to PSG or Juventus?

PSG lost Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, so it makes sense that they could be in the market for a top attacking player like Salah to help replace their former star.

Salah would surely be tempted by these projects, with both PSG and Juve tending to play in the Champions League and compete for major honours basically every season.

After conquering English football, it’s easy to imagine Salah might be tempted to test himself in another major European league, though he has already spent some time in Italy, representing both Fiorentina and Roma earlier in his career.

Liverpool fans will no doubt hope there’s still a chance, however, for them to keep Salah for a bit longer.

Liverpool icon Luis Suarez has offered current star Darwin Nunez advice after he was hit with a five match ban following ugly scenes at this summer’s Copa America.

Instead of linking up with Uruguay Nunez has remained with Liverpool and that extra time on the training ground could really help the 25-year-old break into Arne Slot’s team.

Nunez has yet to start for the Reds this season and has been limited to two substitute appearances so far this season.

Suarez offers Nunez advice

Suarez recently announced his retirement from international football, but Nunez will have to wait until his ban is up before he becomes the main man for Uruguay.

The former Liverpool star, who is no stranger to controversy himself had some words of advice for Nunez following his ban and told him he has to “get up and continue to show the kind of player he is.”

Darwin Nunez in action for Liverpool.
Nunez is now in his third season at Liverpool.

“I already spoke with Darwin when he was sanctioned in England,” Suarez said.

“Sometimes people enjoy it more when you are on the ground and fall, but people feel more pain when you get back up.

“And that is what he has to do, get up and continue to show the kind of player he is.

“That is where you see the great players and the mental strength he has to have to show those people that they like to see him on the ground.”

It’s a huge season for Nunez as he begins his third season at Anfield following his big money move from Portuguese giants Benfica.

Despite showing glimpses of what he can do it’s yet to all come together for the Uruguayan at Anfield.

The striker has scored 33 goals and provided 17 assists in 98 appearances for the club, but it feels like this season could be make or break for the former Benfica man given the amount of attacking talent Liverpool have at their disposal.

The injury suffered by Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister while playing for Argentina is believed to not be serious or worrying as the midfielder is expected to be in the squad for the Copa America winners’ next match.

Mac Allister featured for Argentina in their 3-0 win over Chile on Thursday night with the 25-year-old opening the scoring for Lionel Scaloni’s men. However, not everything went to plan for the Liverpool talent as the Argentine picked up an abductor injury.

According to the reliable Gaston Edul, the World Cup winner had some discomfort in his abductor and will train separately from the rest of the Argentina squad until Tuesday in order to be ready for their next match against Colombia.

There would have been concern from Liverpool fans about the condition of their player but according to Fabrizio Romano, Mac Allister’s injury is not serious or worrying and is expected to be fit for the Colombia game on Tuesday.

How many minutes the midfielder will receive is unknown but he is expected to play some part in the match as Argentina look to extend their lead at the top of their World Cup qualifying table.
