Leicester City defender Harry Souttar, currently on loan at Sheffield United, has taken a thinly veiled swipe at his parent club in a recent interview.

The 25-year-old centre-back, who joined Leicester in January 2023 from Stoke City, has struggled to establish himself in the first team, leading to limited game time under several different managers.

Souttar was signed by Leicester in an effort to strengthen their defence during a difficult Premier League campaign. However, despite his reputation as a towering and reliable defender, he failed to make a significant impact and fell out of favour.

The lack of consistent playing time eventually led to him being loaned out to Sheffield United for the 2024-25 season.

Since joining Sheffield United on loan, Souttar has enjoyed a promising start and is finally seeing regular minutes on the pitch.

Souttar’s subtle dig at Leicester

In a recent interview, the Australian international expressed his happiness at playing consistently again, while also appearing to criticise his experience at Leicester.

Speaking about his current situation, Souttar said (quotes via The Star):

“It’s just really great to be playing, to feel like a player again. And to get treated like a proper football player is really nice. I feel really good and feel fit. It helps massively on the pitch when you’re playing week in, week out.”

Although he didn’t explicitly mention Leicester, his comments about being “treated like a proper football player” suggest dissatisfaction with his time at the club, where he was largely on the sidelines.

While Souttar is enjoying his time at Sheffield United, his future at Leicester remains uncertain. Whether he can rediscover his form and make a return to his parent club or continue his career elsewhere remains to be seen.

Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard joined Leicester City on loan during the summer transfer window.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, the striker signed a new deal with the Eagles before heading out on loan. The Londoners made sure that they do not lose him on a free transfer next year and he has a contract with them until 2027 now.

Edouard has struggled since his move to Palace and he has not been at his best. He has not been able to replicate his goalscoring form from Celtic and he needs a fresh start. A move to the King Power Stadium could be ideal for him.

He might get to play regularly for the Foxes and that could help him regain his form and confidence.

Leicester needed attacking reinforcements this summer and Edouard could prove to be a useful option for them. Regular football in the Premier League would be ideal for the Palace striker as well. It will help him improve and regain his sharpness.

Edouard will certainly hope to impress at Leicester and then return to Palace as a better player next year. He will hope to establish himself as a key player for the Eagles in the long-term.

If he fails to make his mark at Leicester, Palace could always look to sell him permanently next summer. The new deal will protect his market value and help them fetch a reasonable amount of money for his services.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.

Meanwhile, the Foxes will be looking to stave off relegation this season and they could use all the help they can get. Edouard could prove to be a handy option for them. He has the quality to improve them in the final third.

Leicester City have been joined by Everton and Bournemouth in the race to sign attacking midfielder Yusuf Yazıcı, according to Jeunes Footeux.

The player is being chased by several clubs this summer because he is a free agent and his track record last season was impressive for Lille.

Surprisingly, he left Lille this summer and became a free agent but since June, his future has not been decided and clubs are waiting for him to make a decision.

As per the report, Leicester City have opened talks with his representatives as they look to complete the signing of the midfielder.

The newly promoted side have shown serious interest in the services of the player, who can add goals and attacking strength to the team.

Following the loss off attacking midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea this summer, Leicester have been looking for a midfielder who can produce output in the attacking third.

It still remains to be seen what the player prefers but at the moment, Leicester are leading the race to sign him.

Everton and Bournemouth will have to act fast if they have genuine interest in the services of the player.

He scored 12 goals and provided four assists last season for Lille in an impressive individual season.

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has labelled Oliver Skipp’s transfer to Leicester City as the worst of the summer.

The Foxes, who are back in the top flight appointed Steve Cooper as their new manager after Enzo Maresca left for Chelsea shelled out £20m for Skipp.

Tottenham, who made a number of changes to their midfielder with youngsters Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall joining the club, are thought to have a sell on clause inserted in the deal.

Bent labels Skipp worst summer signing

Spurs will likely be delighted with the money they got for their academy graduate, who made 106 appearances for his boyhood club.

Leicester on the other hand will be hoping Skipp, who has already featured in two of their first three Premier League games can add something to their midfield and form a partnership with Harry Winks, another former Spurs player.

However, ex-Spurs striker Bent believes Skipp isn’t the sort of signing the Foxes need and labelled the deal as his worst transfer of the summer.

Oliver Skipp in action for Leicester.
Skipp joined Leicester in a deal worth £20m from Tottenham this summer.

“Worst signing, Oliver Skipp and I feel so bad saying that, Bent told talkSPORT as quoted by The Spurs Web.

“You are a horrible man,” Andy Goldstein hit back.

“What am I supposed to do? I just think £20 million, Bent continued.

“Is that what Leicester needed? Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks. Harry was good last year in the Championship.

“The reason why I am not putting Dewsbury-Hall (to Chelsea) in there because Chelsea have just thrown the money left, right and centre at loads of different players, so you almost get lost in it.

“I am not saying he is a bad player. Leicester fans can tell me, when they signed Oliver Skipp, did they automatically think ‘right, yes, he gives us the best chance of staying up?’ Does he?”

Leicester fans would love nothing more than for Bent to be proven wrong, but it does seem a lot of money to spend on a player, who you could argue doesn’t really take Leicester to the next level.

Having said that it will be interesting to see how Skipp does with the Foxes and whether he can form a good partnership with Winks in the middle of the park.

Leicester City are currently exploring the free agent market to strengthen their squad.

The newly promoted team lost manager Enzo Maresca and key midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea this summer.

Since then, they have replaced the manager by appointing Steve Cooper while signings have been made in defense and the midfield position to deal with the difficult life in the Premier League.

They could not complete all their business and so they are expected to enter the market in January again to add more players.

However, with the summer transfer window closed now and the January window four months away, they could sign free agents to fill the gaps in their squad.

According to Leicestershire Live, they could look at the following three players to address their issues.

Patrick van Aanholt

With Victor Kristiansen and Luke Thomas being Cooper’s only options for the left-back position, they despreately need an addition in that area of the defense.

Cooper neglected the left-back position all summer but now he could change that if he moves for van Aanholt.

Yusuf Yazici

He is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions in the attacking third.

Yazici is available as a free agent with interest from Premier League clubs increasing day by day in his services.

The player represented Turkey at Euro 2024 and it is still a surprise how he is still without a club.

Leicester City Premier League
Yusuf Yazici could shine at Leicester City.

Miralem Pjanic

The former Juventus and Barcelona midfielder is a free agent after playing his football in UAE for the last few seasons.

He is experienced at the top level and Leicester City midfield can benefit from the player’s ability to bring stability and composure to the team’s midfield.

He was consistently performing in Serie A during his time in Italy. Although his form might not be the same but his quality will remain the same.

A free agent is in high demand these days with a number of Premier League clubs looking to secure his signature.

Former Liverpool defender Joel Matip left the Merseyside club this summer following the expiry of his contract and he is currently a free agent.

West Ham United are showing interest in signing the defender but Leicester City and Fulham are both looking to hijack the deal, according to Caught Offside sources.

The Hammers are looking to add depth to their defensive position and Matip is the player they are targeting.

Now they will face competition from two more clubs, with one of them being newly promoted Leicester City.

The 33-year-old, despite his issues with fitness at Anfield, was a huge hit at the club and contributed to their success in the Premier League and the Champions League.

He has experience to play football at the top level and could be a valuable addition to all the teams showing interest in his services.

Leicester City want to sign the former Liverpool man

Fulham, Leicester City and Bournemouth are waiting to see the development around the future of the defender.

Now that the transfer window has closed, clubs can only sign a free agent and that has increased the demand of Matip.

There are question marks over his fitness as he suffered an ACL injury last season that kept him out of action for the second part of the season.

However, there is no question about a fit Matip, who can still bring defensive stability and composure in defense.

One of the Leicester City players could leave the club even after the closure of the Premier League transfer window.

Leicester midfielder Boubakary Soumare is attracting interest from Turkish club Galatasaray, who are keen on signing the defensive midfielder, according to Football Insider.

The Turkish transfer window is open till the 13th of September, which makes it possible for them to sign players even after the Premier League transfer window has shut down.

Galatasaray are active in the market looking for a new midfielder who can add defensive solidity in the middle for them.

Soumare, who still has two years left on his current contract at the club, was sent on loan to Sevilla last season, which shows that the player is not considered a key member of their squad.

The player has no future under manager Steve Cooper and his limited playing time at the club this season has shown that.

The midfielder has only represented the newly promoted team for 11 minutes this season in the three matches so far.

Soumare’s future is still uncertain at the club and Galatasaray could use that situation to their advantage.

If the Turkish club can secure a deal to sign the player, he could represent them in their next match on 15th September.

It’s been quite the time to be a fan of West Ham United, with technical director, Tim Steidten, going above and beyond in the transfer market this summer.

Though it may take some time for the nine new signings that the German has managed to bring in for new first-team coach, Julen Lopetegui, to gel, it heralds a new era in East London.

The club had seen relative success under previous managerial incumbent David Moyes, and three European qualifications on the bounce for the first time in the club’s entire history, as well as their first major trophy in over 40 years certainly can’t be sniffed at.

West Ham will have to battle to land Joel Matip

However, the football had become stale and predictable, and if there’s one thing that the East Londoners enjoy, it’s when their team play good football – something that was missing far too often in the latter stages of Moyes’ tenure.

There could still be more new faces arriving at the London Stadium too, with CaughtOffside sources noting that the Irons are interested in former Liverpool stalwart, Joel Matip.

West Ham are interested in Joel Matip

The 33-year-old defender is a free agent after leaving the Reds, and it’s understood that the Hammers have already made Matip the offer of a two-year contract.

They’ll face a challenge to land him and make it a perfect 10 signings this summer, however.

Sources also advance that all of Leicester City, Fulham and Bournemouth have also made their interest known, and as of this moment, the player has yet to make a final decision regarding his future.

That would suggest that he isn’t completely convinced by West Ham’s proposal, and with time on his side, he can afford to be picky as to where he wants to continue his football career.

Leicester City have successfully appealed against a decision that could have led to a 10-point deduction after being found in violation of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Last season, Leicester were charged with breaching PSR, which are designed to ensure that clubs operate within their financial means.

The club argued that their relegation to the Championship exempted them from penalties, since they were no longer in the Premier League when they submitted their accounts.

However, an independent commission dismissed this argument and upheld the charges against Leicester.

Leicester successful in appeal

Leicester City appealed the decision, and an independent panel has now ruled in their favour.

According to BBC, the panel found that the Premier League did not have the jurisdiction to punish the club, as their accounting period ended after their relegation to the EFL Championship.

This ruling prevents a potential 10-point deduction that could have impacted the club’s future in the Premier League.

The impact of PSR on Premier League clubs

The PSR rules have already had significant consequences for several Premier League clubs.

Last season, Nottingham Forest and Everton faced points deductions for similar breaches, highlighting the strict enforcement of these financial regulations.

The rules have made clubs cautious in their transfer dealings this summer, forcing them to sell players and raise significant funds to balance their books.

Despite the stringent enforcement of PSR on smaller clubs, there is growing discontent among fans and smaller clubs regarding the perceived lack of action against larger clubs like Manchester City. Manchester City faces 115 charges of financial breaches, yet they continue to go unpunished, leading to a belief that smaller clubs are being unfairly targeted while giants remain untouched.

Gary Lineker believes a lot of Leicester fans are baffled by Stephy Mavididi’s lack of involvement in the Premier League this season.

It’s been a difficult start for Steve Cooper, with the Foxes taking just one point from their opening three games.

It was always going to a big ask for Leicester to stay up and the task has been made even harder following the departure of Enzo Maresca and star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who both joined Chelsea.

Lineker baffled by Mavididi’s lack of action

The Foxes battled to a hard earned point against Tottenham on the opening game of season but since then have slipped to a pair of narrow 2-1 defeats against Fulham and Aston Villa.

Last season in the Championship a real hallmark of Leicester’s play was the wing duo of Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu, who both played a big role in the title winning season.

However, at the start of this season Mavididi has played just 53 minutes in the Premier League and Lineker can’t understand the winger’s lack of action.

Stephy Mavididi in action for Leicester City.
Mavididi has played just 53 minutes in the Premier League so far this season.

“Leicester have only got one point, a slightly fortuitous one against Tottenham. I’m slightly worried as a Leicester fan,” he told The Rest is Football.

“They’ve bought a few players in the market but not really the players that are probably needed.

“I think most Leicester fans are slightly baffled as to why Mavididi isn’t getting a look-in on the left hand side, he was brilliant in the Championship.

“And actually both times he’s come on in the games this season, he’s made a real difference so hopefully he’ll get a start.”

Last season the 26-year-old scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 46 Championship appearances and it surprising he’s not had more more of a look in at the start of the season.

Leicester continue their search for a first Premier League win of the season after the international break when they travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace.
