Rob Holding has been banished from Crystal Palace by manager Oliver Glasner, creating growing tension between the defender and the club.

Since his arrival at Selhurst Park from Arsenal in September last year for a £4 million fee, Holding has struggled to make an impact at the club.

Holding has made just a single appearance for Palace, featuring in a 3-0 EFL Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Despite being fit for large parts of last season, the centre-back found it difficult to break into the first team and was regularly excluded from matchday squads.

Eventually, Holding was removed from the main squad and began training separately from his teammates.

When asked about Holding’s situation last month, Glasner provided little detail, merely stating (quotes via We Are Palace):

“Rob is training individually at the moment. We will talk together. He knows the reason. But it is something that stays between Rob and me. Nothing public.”

This comment has only fuelled speculation about the growing rift between the player and the manager.

Holding deletes all mention of Crystal Palace from social media

The situation has escalated with Holding’s recent activity on social media. The centre-back unfollowed Crystal Palace on Instagram and removed almost all references to the club from his account, leaving just one post.

This social media move has further highlighted the strained relationship between Holding and the Eagles.

With Holding now training separately and his social media activity drawing attention, his future at Crystal Palace looks increasingly uncertain.

Whether the club will seek to offload him in the next transfer window remains unclear, but the current situation suggests that a resolution is not forthcoming.

Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard joined Leicester City on loan during the summer transfer window.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, the striker signed a new deal with the Eagles before heading out on loan. The Londoners made sure that they do not lose him on a free transfer next year and he has a contract with them until 2027 now.

Edouard has struggled since his move to Palace and he has not been at his best. He has not been able to replicate his goalscoring form from Celtic and he needs a fresh start. A move to the King Power Stadium could be ideal for him.

He might get to play regularly for the Foxes and that could help him regain his form and confidence.

Leicester needed attacking reinforcements this summer and Edouard could prove to be a useful option for them. Regular football in the Premier League would be ideal for the Palace striker as well. It will help him improve and regain his sharpness.

Edouard will certainly hope to impress at Leicester and then return to Palace as a better player next year. He will hope to establish himself as a key player for the Eagles in the long-term.

If he fails to make his mark at Leicester, Palace could always look to sell him permanently next summer. The new deal will protect his market value and help them fetch a reasonable amount of money for his services.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.

Meanwhile, the Foxes will be looking to stave off relegation this season and they could use all the help they can get. Edouard could prove to be a handy option for them. He has the quality to improve them in the final third.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze as one of their top targets for next summer in what could be a busy window at Old Trafford.

Eze has been a joy to watch for Palace in recent times, and he also fully deserved his role in the England team at Euro 2024 this summer, showing that he’s clearly cut out for the very highest level.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the 26-year-old is emerging as a key target for the Red Devils in a summer in which they aim to sign a new defender, midfielder and winger.

The report adds that Eze has a £68million release clause at Selhurst Park, and in many ways that looks like it could be a bargain for the England international.

Eberechi Eze in action for Crystal Palace

Eze recently scored a delightful solo goal to earn Palace a 1-1 draw away to Chelsea in the Premier League, and he’ll surely want to be influencing bigger games before too long.

Eze transfer: Would Palace star be a good fit for Man Utd?

While it’s not surprising that United are interested in the England international, one has to wonder if he could perhaps do better to consider other possible moves if he has the chance to do so.

It’s easy to imagine the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool also being keen on Eze, and he’d arguably be slotting in to more settled teams there, with United still not quite looking like they know what they’re doing with this new project of theirs.

So many big names have joined MUFC and struggled, and Eze could end up repeating that mistake if he gambles on the move to Manchester over other possible big six suitors.

Still, United are also a huge name with a great history, and, despite their inconsistencies, they have won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the last two seasons, so Eze might feel it’s a big step up for him and a chance to win silverware.

Newcastle United failed with multiple offers to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, they are set to resurrect their interest in the 24-year-old central defender in January. Newcastle are looking to sign him in a cut-price deal.

The Eagles were demanding £75 million for the defender in the summer and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to let him leave for a more reasonable price in January. The defender will have 18 months left on his deal in January and Crystal Palace might have to be more realistic with their demands.

He has established himself as a top-class defender in the Premier League and a number of clubs are keeping tabs on him. Crystal Palace will not want to lose him on a free transfer in 2026, and therefore it would make sense for them to cash in on him prior to that.

Newcastle to return for Marc Guehi in January.
Newcastle failed to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer despite submitting multiple bids.

Marc Guehi will fancy Newcastle move

The defender is keen on competing at a high level and it is fair to resume that he is unlikely to sign an extension with the Eagles. The opportunity to join Newcastle could be quite attractive for him. They have an ambitious project and the resources to sign top quality players. He will want to be a part of their revolution and he will look to win trophies with them.

Newcastle need a top class central defender in order to push for trophies and return to the UEFA Champions League. The former Chelsea academy graduate has the ability to transform Newcastle defensively, and he could be a key player for them during the second half of the season.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Crystal Palace were convinced that star man Eberechi Eze would leave Selhurst Park this summer and were prepared for his departure as they lined up a deal for PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko.

Eze has developed into one of the best players in the Premier League and was outstanding for Palace during the 2023/24 campaign. The 26-year-old produced 11 goals and four assists across 27 league games for the Eagles last season and that earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

It also caught the attention of Tottenham, who appreciate the midfielder and considered a move during the latest transfer window, but Spurs never submitted a formal bid for the Palace talent, reported Fabrizio Romano in one of his columns for CaughtOffside’s The Daily Briefing this week.

According to The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, Crystal Palace were so convinced Eze would leave this summer that they lined up a deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko as his replacement.

The 21-year-old is one of the Eredivisie’s most highly-rated talents but the London club never needed to make a move for the Belgian star.

Why did Tottenham target Eberechi Eze stay at Crystal Palace?

Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing column this week that Eze remained at Crystal Palace for the 2024/25 campaign due to no club submitting a formal bid for the England star.

“There was a release clause in his contract with the Eagles, so the situation this summer was never about whether the club would have accepted or declined offers for Eze or not,” the transfer journalist said.

“If any club had come in and paid the release clause, there was nothing Palace could’ve done about it and the decision to move would’ve rested with Eze himself.”

Romano continued by saying: “No club did trigger the release clause and there were no concrete contacts so in the end, that was the reason he remained at Selhurst Park.

“Man City for sure had him on their list in 2023, and it’s true that Tottenham appreciate him, but there was never any formal bid presented from either club or any other this summer.”

It remains to be seen if the top Premier League club’s target Eze in 2025 as the 26-year-old is expected to produce another special season at Selhurst Park under Oliver Glasner’s guidance.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Newcastle United were very keen on securing his signature and they failed with multiple offers for the 24-year-old England international. However, a report from the Sun claims that Manchester City are now keeping tabs on his progress and they could look to make a move for him in the near future.

The Premier League champions could use more depth at the heart of the defence and he would be a solid acquisition for them. The 24-year-old will look to prove himself at the highest level and the opportunity to move to Manchester City will be quite attractive for him. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and they have a proven track record of winning major trophies consistently.

The England international will be attracted to the idea of playing for them next season. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Guehi is unlikely to be a cheap acquisition and the Eagles will demand a premium for him. He has a contract with them until 2026, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince the player to sign an extension with the club.

Man City to move for Marc Guehi next summer?

If Crystal Palace fail to convince him to sign a new deal, Manchester City could look to move for him in the summer of 2025. The Eagles will be under pressure to sell him then, and they will not want to lose him on a free transfer in 2026. The England international could be available for a cut price deal in 2025.

Manchester City are unlikely to be the only club keen on signing him next summer and they are likely to face competition from other Premier League rivals. It will be interesting to see where the 24-year-old ends up.

Newcastle United failed to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the summer.

The Magpies identified the England international as a top transfer target, but despite making the Eagles three offers, came up short in their efforts to sign him.

Newcastle’s highest offer for the 24-year-old was in excess of £65 million but that figure still fell short of Steve Parish’s £75 million valuation. Consequently, Guehi stayed at Selhurst Park and is now, as the side’s captain, focusing on performing to the best of his ability.

Marc Guehi next Crystal Palace contract to include clause

However, even though the defender wants his football to do the talking, according to a recent report from Football Insider, Palace are keen to open contract talks.

Marc Guehi wants a clause included in his next Crystal Palace contract.
Newcastle failed to sign Marc Guehi this summer despite making three bids.

Guehi has two years left on his current contract, and even though he is open to discussing new terms, wants a release clause included in any future deal.

Although Palace are likely to include a clause of at least £75 million, the fact the player wants one in place could be good news for Newcastle ahead of them revisiting the possibility of signing the defender in future windows.

The Geordies’ failed pursuit meant they experienced a disappointing summer with William Osula, Lloyd Kelly and goalkeeping duo Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy their only signings.

Simple reason why Eze stayed at Crystal Palace

I want to clear up any confusion regarding Eberechi Eze, guys, as the England international didn’t leave Crystal Palace this summer.

There was a release clause in his contract with the Eagles, so the situation this summer was never about whether the club would have accepted or declined offers for Eze or not.

If any club had come in and paid the release clause, there was nothing Palace could’ve done about it and the decision to move would’ve rested with Eze himself.

No club did trigger the release clause and there were no concrete contacts so in the end, that was the reason he remained at Selhurst Park.

Man City for sure had him on their list in 2023, and it’s true that Tottenham appreciate him, but there was never any formal bid presented from either club or any other this summer.

As Steve Parish said, everything was quiet.

Time for Fabio Vieira to return to playing regular football

The situation with Fabio Vieira is also a simple one to understand.

Firstly, it’s time for him to return to playing regular football every week, which is the expectation with the loan to Porto, and something he hasn’t been able to achieve to this point with Arsenal.

The loan deal will also allow Arsenal to monitor his progress over the course of the 2024/25 season and then assess things again in 2025.

At that point there will need to be a conversation between Mikel Arteta, the player and his representatives.

By then, the attacking midfielder will be 25 years of age and a definitive decision about his career one way or the other will need to be made.

I can guarantee that no plans are in place at the moment and no final decision has been made for Fabio Vieira.

This is why the move is a straight loan.

Nothing concrete to report on Angel Gomes’ situation

Many clubs are following and scouting Angel Gomes, but in this moment there’s nothing concrete or specific to report.

Any ‘interest’ mentioned now would be guesswork and as you know guys, I don’t work in this way.

It’s just normal monitoring of a very good player, who has just made the England squad after impressing at Lille.

England coach, Lee Carsley, has clearly seen something that he likes, and with fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland coming up in the next few days, it does offer Gomes the perfect opportunity to be able to show how much he’s improved of late.

At 24, the former Manchester United player looks to be on the verge of a special moment in his career.

No Messi or Ronaldo in the Ballon d’Or nominee list

The full list of this year’s Ballon d’Or nominees have now been released, and it’s the first time since 2003 that both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not in the final 30 names.

It’s almost the end of a spectacular era for the game but both players will be remembered forever. As much for the joy they’ve brought to so many fans as well as the multiple awards that each have won.

I won’t comment on my favourite candidate for this year’s award, but in general I think it was a fair list.

It’s almost an impossible job to narrow down the names and I’d have probably added Rodrygo, Xavi Simons and Frimpong. Rodrygo has even gone on social media already to show his feelings about his omission.

There are some big names in the final 30:

Jude Bellingham, Ruben Dias, Phil Foden, Federico Valverde, Emiliano Martinez, Erling Haaland, Nico Williams, Granit Xhaka, Artem Dovbyk, Toni Kroos, Vinicius Jr., Dani Olmo, Florian Wirtz, Martin Ødegaard, Mats Hummels, Rodri, Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Vitinha, Cole Palmer, Dani Carvajal, Lamine Yamal, Bukayo Saka, Hakan Calhanoglu, William Saliba, Kylian Mbappe, Lautaro Martinez, Ademola Lookman, Toni Rudiger and Alejandro Grimaldo.

After a reasonable enough summer with the England team, Arsenal and Tottenham transfer target, Eberechi Eze, might’ve expected to leave Crystal Palace in the summer, but he remains at Selhurst Park.

Former team-mate, Michael Olise, has moved on to Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, whilst Marc Guehi was the subject of major interest from Newcastle United.

Ultimately, Palace chairman, Steve Parish, was able to rebuff any bids from the Magpies, and it appears that fellow England international, Guehi, wasn’t pushing to leave the Eagles.

Simple transfer situation for Tottenham target, Eze

Eze, for his part, seemingly didn’t have a decision to make in the end.

“I want to clear up any confusion regarding Eberechi Eze, guys, as the England international didn’t leave Crystal Palace this summer,” Fabrizio Romano said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.

“There was a release clause in his contract with the Eagles, so the situation this summer was never about whether the club would have accepted or declined offers for Eze or not.

“If any club had come in and paid the release clause, there was nothing Palace could’ve done about it and the decision to move would’ve rested with Eze himself.

“No club did trigger the release clause and there were no concrete contacts so in the end, that was the reason he remained at Selhurst Park.

Eberechi Eze wasn't signed by Tottenham or any other interested party this summer
Eberechi Eze wasn’t signed by Tottenham or any other interested party this summer

“Man City for sure had him on their list in 2023, and it’s true that Tottenham appreciate him, but there was never any formal bid presented from either club or any other this summer.

“As Steve Parish said, everything was quiet.”

Financial Fair Play is clearly now playing a major part in the transfer dealings at all clubs, with the Premier League’s attempts to level the playing field bearing fruit.

Clubs that perhaps previously might’ve been able to go out and buy who they liked no matter the cost are now having to consider whether they need to sell before they can buy.

That may go some way to explaining why, for this summer at least, there were no bids for Eze.

Should he retain his form for club and country during the 2024/25 campaign, there’s every reason to expect that someone may come in next summer and pay his release clause, with the Daily Express linking both Arsenal and Tottenham with interest in the player.

The player will be 27 by then but still have two years remaining on his contract (transfermarkt), so any clubs believing that they might be able to land him on the cheap will need to think again.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed he actively wants to sell players to clubs of the stature of Newcastle United.

The Magpies spent most of the summer chasing Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi, but were ultimately thwarted and unable to agree on a fee.

However, Palace did agree to other high-profile sales, most notably allowing French playmaker Michael Olise to make a big move to German giants Bayern Munich.

Although safe at Selhurst Park for now, Parish knows he faces an uphill battle to keep the likes of Guehi and Eberechi Eze around long-term.

In fact, the Palace chairman has openly admitted he is ‘proud’ to sell star players to bigger clubs, openly namedropping Newcastle in the process.

“We’re proud of the fact that Michael Olise’s gone to Bayern Munich,” Parish told Sky Sports News. “We want to be selling to the top clubs, or to clubs like Newcastle who’ve got great aspirations and have recently been in the Champions League.

“So we have to manage all of those things. We won’t get really great young talent to come to us if they think they’re going to be stuck.”

He added: “We want to be playing in the Champions League. The reality is we don’t right now. That’s what players want to achieve in their career and we respect that and we respect the fact that sometimes we’re going to be a pathway to that.”
