According to L’Equipe, Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne could be set to sign a new deal with the Premier League club.

The French left-back joined Villa in January 2022 from Everton and quickly established himself as a key player, known for his defensive reliability and attacking contributions, particularly through his crossing ability.

Since his arrival, Digne has played an essential role in Villa’s efforts to stabilise in the Premier League and push for European qualification.

Under former manager Steven Gerrard and current boss Unai Emery, the French international has been a vital figure on the left flank, providing both defensive solidity and creative support in attack.

Despite facing injuries and competition for his position, Digne’s experience and versatility have made him a valuable asset.

Digne has particularly flourished under Emery’s leadership, with his game improving and his set-piece skills becoming a notable asset during Villa’s resurgence.

His ability to provide width, deliver dangerous crosses, and contribute to Villa’s attacking play has been crucial, helping the team push towards the upper echelons of the Premier League table.

Potential contract extension

While Digne’s current contract runs until 2026, L’Equipe suggests that the 31-year-old defender could be tempted to extend his stay at Villa Park.

The report notes that his desire to secure a regular spot in the French national team could play a significant role in his decision to commit his long-term future to the club.

As Aston Villa continue to make strides under Emery, securing Digne’s services for the foreseeable future could be a strategic move to solidify their ambitions domestically and in Europe.

Aston Villa had a bid rejected this summer for Besiktas forward Semih Kilicsoy according to reports in Turkey.

It was a busy summer for Villa with a number of new faces coming through the door as the cub strengthened the squad to deal with the demands of Champions League football.

Villa spent big on the likes of Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen, whilst Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz joined Al-Ittihad and  Juventus respectively.

Villa had bid rejected for Kilicsoy

Unai Emery has a lot of attacking talent at his disposal, but according to recent reports from Turkey there was one player the Spaniard wanted to sign.

Sinan Engin, a former general manager of Besiktas and now commentator claimed Villa made a bid to sign Besiktas’ Kilicsoy this summer.

As quoted by Turkish outlet Aslinda, Engin revealed that Villa made an offer of €15m for Kilicsoy, which was turned down by Besiktas.

Semih Kılıçsoy in action for Besiktas.
Aston Villa reportedly made a €15m offer for Kılıcsoy this summer.

The 19-year-old has come through the ranks at Besiktas and signed a new deal in January keeping him at the Turkish club until 2028.

Kilicsoy, who can play on the left wing and through the middle broke into the Besiktas side last season and has made 44 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals.

The teenager is already a full Turkey international, but has yet to score in his three appearances for the national team.

Villa already have a young striker on their books in Jhon Duran and maybe their reported offer for Kilicsoy coincided with them thinking they would lose the Colombian who was linked with both Chelsea and West Ham this summer.

Emery already has a plethora of attacking options to choose from, so it will be interesting to see if Villa choose to reignite their interest in Kilicsoy, who is clearly a talent and seemingly has the capabilities to play at a higher level.

Aston Villa are reportedly ready to make a decision on two players nearing the ends of their contracts.

Both Robin Olson and Kortney Hause are out of contract in summer 2025, and it seems Villa will hope to soon come to a decision on the pair one way or another.

It seems likely that Hause will be allowed to move on at the end of his current deal after barely getting any playing time at Villa Park in the last two years.

Olsen, meanwhile, is 34 years of age and a backup goalkeeper for Unai Emery’s side, so it’s also hard to imagine the club will find a role for him to continue with them for any longer.

Villa, like all clubs, will undoubtedly be keen to ensure they have decent squad depth, but they can probably do so without also carrying passengers like this who aren’t really contributing anything to the team.

It will be interesting to see if any clubs show an interest in these players, but it could well be that they’d have plenty to offer if they were willing to step down a level from Villa.

Aston Villa were reportedly keen on signing the Turkish winger Semih Kilicsoy during the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old is highly rated across Europe and he has a bright future ahead of himself. He could have been a quality long-term investment for the West Midlands club and the Premier League side failed with an offer to sign him.

According to commentator Sinan Engin via Aslinda, the West Midlands club submitted an offer of around €15 million to sign the highly-rated winger, but Besiktas turned down the offer. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa decide to return for him in January. They could certainly use a dynamic attacker like Kilicsoy, who is versatile enough to operate anywhere across the front three.

He will add goals and creativity to the side. Aston Villa will be competing in the UEFA Champions League this season and they could use more quality and depth in the side. The 19-year-old would be a long-term asset for them.

Semih Kilicsoy could fancy Premier League move

The opportunity to play in the Premier League could be quite attractive for the player as well. Regular football in England could accelerate his development and help him fulfil his potential. The attacker has already established himself as a key player for Besiktas and he scored 12 goals in all competitions last season. His numbers are likely to improve when he is playing in a better team alongside top class players.

A move to Aston Villa could be the ideal next step for him, and it could help him realise his true potential. Aston Villa will need to improve their squad in the upcoming windows, and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal done for the Turkish forward.

Aston Villa are among five Premier League clubs eyeing a move for Brentford striker Bryan Mbuemo according to reports.

Having qualified for the Champions League last season Villa were one of the busier clubs in the window this summer with a number of new faces coming in.

Unai Emery’s men spent big on the likes of Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen, whilst they also sold Douglas Luiz and club record signing Moussa Diaby.

Villa interested in Mbuemo

Unai Emery’s side have started the season with two wins from their first three Premier League games and will be looking to replicate their feats of last season.

They have a difficult task of juggling the demands of the Champions League and the Premier League, but they appear to have a built a squad capable of giving it a good go.

The summer window may have only recently closed but there are already players being linked with a move to Villa Park.

Bryan Mbuemo in action for Brentford.
A number of Premier League clubs are believed to be interested in Mbuemo.

Football Insider have reported that Villa are one of five Premier League clubs interested in signing Brentford’s Mbuemo.

The report adds that Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester City and Newcastle are the other clubs interested in the Brentford man.

The Bees turned down a bid of £25m for the Cameroon international, who has two years remaining on his current deal from Nottingham Forest earlier this summer.

It seemingly doesn’t make much sense for Villa to be linked with another forward given the attacking options they have, but they could potentially be planning ahead incase Jhon Duran, who has two goals in three Premier League games this season leaves the club in the next couple of windows.

Mbuemo, who has been at Brentford since 2019 after joining from French side Troyes can play across the front line and has made 203 appearances for the Bees, scoring 53 goals and providing 43 assists.

Journalist Graeme Bailey and The Boot Room claim that the Villans are already planning to target Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior for January transfer.

Given that the Poland international is thinking about leaving the Emirates Stadium in the middle of the season, it’s thought that Villa is one of the few teams interested in signing Kiwior.

The versatile defender could be available for £20-30m if Arsenal agree to sell him in January.

The 24-year-old was used mainly as a left-back under Mikel Arteta but can play in the middle of defence as well.

Teams like Juventus and AC Milan expressed interest in signing Poland ace in summer but Arsenal rebuffed any offer.

Kiwior is keen to play majority of minutes this season and could be looking to play elsewhere when transfer window reopens in 2025.

Aston Villa have been fined €60,000 (£50,000) by UEFA after failing to submit their financial accounts on time, despite meeting the required financial targets for the 2023-24 season.

The fine, reported by the BBC, comes as part of UEFA’s ongoing financial regulations, where clubs are required to provide timely financial documentation.

Aston Villa fined by UEFA

Villa’s penalty was imposed by UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body for late paperwork. Although the club met UEFA’s financial thresholds, the delay in submitting their accounts led to the fine.

Aston Villa are not the only club sanctioned; French side Marseille received a €20,000 (£17,000) fine for similar paperwork delays, while AS Roma faced a much harsher penalty of €2m (£1.7m) for failing to meet financial targets altogether.

Aston Villa to play in Champions League this season

Despite the financial hiccup, Aston Villa are gearing up for their return to the Champions League this season under manager Unai Emery.

Villa have been in impressive form since Emery’s appointment, finishing in the Premier League top four last season, ahead of teams like Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Villa’s Champions League campaign will see them face top European sides, including Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Celtic at home, with away fixtures against teams like RB Leipzig, AS Monaco, and Club Brugge.

This season’s Champions League format introduces a revamped 36-team “League phase,” where each team plays eight matches—four home and four away—against different opponents.

While Villa’s financial fine is a minor setback, the club remains focused on their promising season in both the Premier League and European competition.

Once the current international break is over, Aston Villa will embark on their first Champions League/European Cup adventure in over 40 years.

Things were a little different back in 1982 when Peter Withe fired home the winner in the final against Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich.

Only the champions of their respective domestic leagues were involved in the tournament, and the Midlands-based outfit only needed to get through four two-legged games to get to the final.

Stan Collymore is furious with Aston Villa

This season, the new format is in place, and that will see Villa play a minimum of eight games in the first part of the tournament.

At home, they’ll entertain – as fate would have it – Bayern Munich again, as well as Juventus, Celtic and Bologna.

They’ll also face RB Leipzig, Club Brugge, Young Boys and AS Monaco on their travels.

It’s clear that tickets to the games will be like gold dust, and Villa appear to be cashing in, in a move that has disgusted their former player, and loyal supporter, Stan Collymore.

Aston Villa will charge almost £100 for their Champions League matches at Villa Park
Aston Villa will charge almost £100 for their Champions League matches at Villa Park

“The good times are back thanks to Unai Emery,” he said in an exclusive interview.

After finishing fourth in the Premier League last season, we’re now on the verge of kicking off our Champions League campaign — the first time we’ve been in the competition since 1982!

“Despite all of this though, the club, who have decided to charge season ticket-holders between £85 and £97 for Champions League home games, are using the feel-good factor to cash in while they can.

“I think it’s an absolute disgrace!”

Though it doesn’t appear to be a case of ‘dynamic pricing’ from the club, they’ve certainly priced the tickets at the very top end, and given how many other games domestically fans will be forking out for, you can’t really blame Collymore for his outburst.

Perhaps supporters will vote with their feet at the first game, and because directors won’t want to see any empty seats at Villa Park it could force a needed change upon them.

Nearly £100 for a group stage ticket… that’s about as far from the ‘working man’s game’ as it’s possible to be.

The English transfer window may be closed, but Aston Villa’s business might not be done yet.

Villa were extremely busy during the summer market, with Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz sold for big fees, while the likes of Amadou Onana, Ian Maatsen, Ross Barkley and Jaden Philogene came the other way.

Unai Emery has done an excellent job with the Midlands club so far and guided them to fourth place last season, meaning they can look forward to a Champions League campaign.

Aston Villa contacted by Yazici agent

Yusuf Yazici reacts during the UEFA Euro 2024 Group F football match between Turkey and Portugal at the BVB Stadion in Dortmund on June 22, 2024.

According to a report from HITC, Aston Villa are among the clubs to have been contacted by the agent of Yusuf Yazici.

The 27-year-old is without a club after leaving Lille as a free agent during the summer and his representatives are working hard on finding him a new home.

HITC states that alongside Villa, fellow Premier League outfits Manchester United, Newcastle United, Wolves, Southampton, Fulham, West Ham and Tottenham have all spoken with Yazici’s agent.

However, Turkish side Galatasaray are the current favourites for his signature in a move that would see the 45-time international return to his homeland.

Yazici — who featured twice at Euro 2024 this summer — last played in Turkey on loan from Lille back at boyhood club Trabzonspor during the 2022/23 season.

Most recently, the forward notched 12 goals and four assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Lille last season.

Yazici also helped Lille win the 2020/21 Ligue 1 title — the last won by a team other than Paris Saint-Germain.

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans has now opened up on his future.

The 27-year-old Belgian international midfielder has revealed that he could return to his former club Anderlecht in the near future. The midfielder spent his formative years at the Belgian club and they hold a special place in his heart.

They nurtured him into the player he is today and the midfielder has now revealed that the door to a potential return remains open.

He said (h/t TBR Football): “For me, the door to Anderlecht is always open, but I also have to look at my career. First, there are other things.”

The 27-year-old midfielder is a key player for Aston Villa and they will not want to lose him any time soon. He is at the peak of his powers and losing him would be a major blow for the West Midlands club.

Aston Villa have put together an exciting squad and they are competing in the UEFA Champions League this season. They have a top-class manager at their disposal as well, and the West Midlands club will hope that Tielemans is attracted to the idea of staying at Villa Park for the long term.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old midfielder will look to push for trophies with them and compete at a high level consistently. Aston Villa have shown great improvement under Unai Emery and the Spanish manager will look to guide them to trophies in the coming seasons.

Anderlecht return seems unlikely

Anderlecht will certainly be delighted to sign a top class midfielder like him, but a return to Belgium at this stage of his career seems unlikely. Perhaps a return to his boyhood club in his twilight years would be more fitting.

Tielemans should focus on his football at Aston Villa now and look to succeed with them this season.
