Tottenham Hotspur have received a major boost ahead of their highly anticipated North London Derby clash against Arsenal this Sunday.

With Arsenal missing several key players, Spurs could go into the match in a much stronger position.

Arsenal’s injury woes

Arsenal will be without midfielder Declan Rice, who is suspended after receiving a controversial red card against Brighton.

Adding to the Gunners’ problems, summer signing Mikel Merino, who would have been an ideal replacement for Rice, is also sidelined with an injury.

Another summer signing Riccardo Calafiori as also left Arsenal sweating after he left the Italy camp yesterday following a freak injury against France. And club captain Martin Odegaard could be the next in the list of injuries for the Gunners.

Odegaard limps off against Austria

There were initial concerns about Odegaard’s availability after he picked up a knock during the Brighton game. But he ended up being fine as he played the full 90 minutes of Norway’s Nations League match against Kazakhstan on Friday.

However, the Norwegian midfielder was involved in a collision with Christoph Baumgartner midway through the second half against Austria earlier tonight, which forced him off the pitch.

Arsenal fans will be worried as Odegaard was seen limping off, and it remains uncertain if he will recover in time for Sunday’s derby.

While Tottenham are still waiting on the recovery of Dominic Solanke and Micky van de Ven, they look to be in a more favourable condition compared to their rivals.

Both players have been working on their fitness ahead of the game, and manager Ange Postecoglou will be hoping to have them available.

Given Arsenal’s depleted squad, Tottenham supporters may feel that their team has a strong chance of securing a win in this crucial fixture, with expectations for a positive result growing ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

Martin Keown believes Arsenal’s away form and defensive record give them the ‘pedigree of champions’ and enough to beat Tottenham in the North London derby.

The Gunners travel to the home of their arch-rivals Spurs on Sunday looking to get back on track following a disappointing and controversial 1-1 draw against Brighton before the international break.

Arsenal have taken seven points from three Premier League games so far and remain unbeaten, while Spurs have picked up just one win and four points.

Last season, Mikel Arteta’s men kept a league-high 18 clean sheets — at least five more than any other team — while they conceded the fewest goals of any Premier League team (29).

Arsenal have started this season in a similar fashion, conceding just a single goal across their opening three matches.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League away games, which includes a 3-2 win against Spurs in April.

Martin Keown makes Arsenal vs Tottenham prediction

TV pundit Martin Keown is seen working prior to the Premier League match between Norwich City and Everton FC at Carrow Road on June 24, 2020 in Norwich, England.

It’s for these reasons that Keown is backing Arsenal to pick up another hard-fought win against their closest rivals.

“I think it probably would, but I don’t see it happening,” Keown responded when asked on talkSPORT if he thinks a Spurs win on Sunday would be a shock.

He continued: “I think that Arsenal are still good enough – when you look at their defensive record and the number of clean sheets in recent times.

“If you look at their away record you start to think they have the pedigree of champions.

“I’m going to go with Arsenal but you have to earn everything you get at Spurs now.”

Martin Keown has called on Jorginho and Arsenal’s other squad players to fill the void left by Declan Rice in this weekend’s North London derby.

The Gunners are preparing to face their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur away from home on Sunday.

However, they must do so without key midfielder Rice, who was controversially sent off in the 1-1 draw against Brighton prior to the international break.

Italy international Jorginho is expected to start in Rice’s place despite being an unused substitute in all three of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this season.

Jorginho has proven himself an excellent back-up to Rice in the past. However, Keown believes it can’t just be him who ups his game against Spurs, with Mikel Arteta needing big performances from other Arsenal squad members.

Keown outlines how Arsenal can cope with Declan Rice vs Spurs

Declan Rice of Arsenal interacts with match referee Chris Kavanagh after being shown a second yellow card during the Premier League match between Arsenal FC and Brighton & Hove Albion FC at Emirates Stadium on August 31, 2024 in London, England.

Jorginho has to come into that position and he has plenty of experience but it can’t just be one player,” Keown told talkSPORT.

“Back in the day there were many times when we were without the likes of Patrick Vieira or Thierry Henry, it didn’t matter.

“Players came in – Edu came in, or Kanu came in.

“You’ve got to have a squad who are strong enough and this is where the question mark will be with Arsenal because they’ve let a lot of good young players go and they had to do that to balance the books.

“It’s whether the squad is strong enough.”

Arsenal star Fabio Vieira has described his time in North London as “difficult” having secured a move back to FC Porto with the Gunners set to decide the midfielder’s future in 2025.

The Portuguese star arrived at the Emirates Stadium during the summer of 2022 as part of a £34m deal with Porto, however, amongst high hopes for the midfielder, he failed to cement a regular starting spot in Mikel Arteta’s team.

Vieira has been a rotation player across the 49 games he has featured in for the North London outfit so far and Arsenal decided that it would be best if the 24-year-old went out on loan for the current season to gain more experience in order to try and progress with the Premier League club.

The former Porto star returned to the Portuguese giants but there is no option to buy clause in his loan deal, reports Fabrizio Romano. The transfer journalist states that Arsenal want to assess the 24-year-old’s situation in 2025, which is the reason for a buy option not being included.

The current campaign is a big one for Vieira in order to impress Arteta as the midfielder received just 561 minutes of action last season, although the player did miss a large chunk of the campaign with a groin injury.

Vieira has now opened up about his spell with the Premier League club and admits that it was a “difficult time” during his short career.

Fabio Vieira opens up about his time at Arsenal

Speaking to the Portuguese sports paper O Jogo, Vieira has described his time at Arsenal as “difficult” and is looking forward to developing his game further at Porto this season.

“The idea of returning came from me. I love this club and I’m going to give everything on the pitch,” the midfielder said via The Standard. “I’m happy, obviously, it’s my home. I’m looking forward to being at the stadium, playing in front of these fans and doing the best I can for this club this season.

“It was a chance that, above all, came to me because it was something I already wanted: to play. I had a difficult time in England, an operation, and at this moment I felt that FC Porto was a good opportunity to continue growing and developing.

“I felt that this was the right place to do it this season.”

Arsenal reportedly made a late summer transfer window enquiry over a possible deal for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, who was also linked with Liverpool a couple of months earlier.

Gordon has improved a great deal under Eddie Howe’s guidance at St James’ Park, and it’s well documented that he had already been highly regarded during his days as a youngster at Everton, when he’d attracted interest from Chelsea.

Liverpool were the main name linked with the England international this summer, but it seems Arsenal also tried their luck with a late approach, though it seemingly never got anywhere particularly concrete or advanced…

Gordon transfer: Arsenal would do well to sign the Newcastle winger

Gordon could surely be a good fit for a club like Arsenal, who were known to be in the market for a top winger this summer, if the opportunity came along.

The Gunners were seemingly interested in Nico Williams, though he was deemed unaffordable, which meant that their only signing in the end was a loan move for Raheem Sterling.

It seems unlikely that Sterling will be a particularly long-term option for Mikel Arteta’s side, so it will be interesting to see if this leads them to look at someone like Gordon again.

One imagines Liverpool might also have a good reason to keep on pursuing the 23-year-old as well, with some doubts over Mohamed Salah’s future, as he’s now in the final year of his contract at Anfield, and recently spoke publicly about this being his last season with the club.

Anthony Gordon to Arsenal?

There’s a long time for things to change, of course, so Liverpool fans will hope they might still have a chance of keeping Salah, but if the Egypt international does move on, Gordon could be just the kind of young player who’d make an ideal long-term replacement.

It might be difficult for a former Evertonian to go to LFC, though, which might perhaps give Arsenal an edge in this potential transfer battle.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the French international midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The 29-year-old is a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired earlier this summer.

According to a report from Team Talk, the midfielder’s agent (his mother Veronique) has offered the player to Arsenal and Tottenham. The midfielder would prefer a move to London this summer and it remains to be seen where he ends up.

The player is reportedly demanding wages of around £200,000 a week. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal or Tottenham are willing to pay that kind of money for him.

Signing a player of his quality and experience on a free transfer would certainly be an excellent bit of business but his wage demands could scupper any potential move.

Rabiot would improve Arsenal and Tottenham

Arsenal need more quality and depth in the middle of the park and Rabiot will help them control games better. His ability to add calmness and composure from the deep and recycle possession could prove to be very handy alongside Declan Rice. He could form a solid partnership with the England international.

At Tottenham, they have sanctioned the departures of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The 29-year-old could be the ideal acquisition on a free transfer. It remains to be seen whether they are ready to get the deal done in the coming weeks.

The 29-year-old will look to sort out his future and get back to playing regularly once again. A move to the Premier League will be an exciting challenge for him at this stage of his career. He has the physicality and technical attributes to do well in English football and he will look to establish himself as a key player for Arsenal or Tottenham.

Arsenal decided to send Fabio Vieira on loan to Porto earlier this summer.

The 24-year-old has struggled for regular game time at the north London club and he needed to leave in order to play more often.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese midfielder’s future at Arsenal is far from over and the Gunners wanted to send him out on loan so that he can play regularly and regain his confidence.

He said on GMS: “After he joined Porto on loan from Arsenal, many people started saying ‘ok, it’s over for Fabio Vieira at Arsenal’. What I’m told is that this is not the case.

“Arsenal only wanted to do a straight loan with no buy option included, because they want to assess the situation of Fabio Vieira again in one year. They told internally that Fabio really needed to play on a constant basis every single weekend, to feel the confidence and feel as an important player for the new club and coach.”

Arsenal believe that the loan move to Porto this season will help them assess the midfielder better and see if he is ready for the Premier League in the near future. The 24-year-old will be desperate to prove his worth at Porto now and it remains to be seen whether he can return to Arsenal as a better player next year.

Fabio Vieira could be a useful asset

Vieira is a technically gifted midfielder who is highly rated across Europe. He has the potential to establish himself as an important first team player for Arsenal. The player must focus on his development for now and look to get his career back on track.

If he manages to impress during his loan spell he might get more opportunities at Arsenal next season. Romano claims that the Gunners were not keen on selling the player and therefore they decided to send him out on loan without an option to buy him permanently.

It is evident that the club is still confident in his ability and it remains to be seen whether the player can live up to the expectations.

Arsenal defender William Saliba is being tracked by Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside.

Although there is little prospect of the Gunners selling Saliba for anything other than crazy money, at least €120million or probably more, there is understood to be strong interest from these three elite clubs as they rate the talented young Frenchman very highly.

Saliba has firmly established himself as one of the finest defensive players in world football in recent years, and it would be a huge blow for Arsenal to lose him as they aim to get back to the top in the Premier League and become serious challengers for the Champions League as well.

Thankfully for Arsenal fans, Saliba has a contract until 2027 at the Emirates Stadium, so there’s little pressure to let him go, though one imagines the 23-year-old might find it hard to say no to some of these big names involved.

William Saliba in action for Arsenal

Saliba transfer: Arsenal need to keep star centre-back

Arsenal used to sell their star names, much to their detriment, as they lost the likes of Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez during their peak years.

They won’t want to make the same mistake again as it cost them success in the past, and someone like Saliba surely has it in him to be a real leader for this team for many years to come.

Arsenal have made so much progress under Mikel Arteta, and Saliba is surely going to be someone viewed as untouchable for the foreseeable future, alongside others like Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.

Real Madrid would surely love to have a Galactico of this kind, however, while we all know PSG like to sign the best French players if they can, so this story won’t be completely going away any time soon.

Chelsea have made a lot of signings in the last two years and despite spending heavily on new players, not all of them have worked out at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have endured a difficult time, with the club failing to reach the heights expected of them.

They have faced issues on and off the pitch, with not only their performances coming into question but also how the club is being run under Todd Boehly.

One of their most expensive signings Mykhailo Mudryk has been a massive failure at Stamford Bridge.

The club fought against rivals Arsenal to sign the Ukrainian winger but after arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk with huge expectation, he has failed to deliver.

Former Chelsea player and football pundit Scott Minto has now claimed that the player would be better off at Arsenal.

Minto feels that Chelsea are missing stability that the players need to perform.

While speaking to TalkSPORT, he discussed the uncertainty of the manager position at Stamford Bridge.

He said:

“The best thing to do is to create stability, and that’s something which they have not been able to have because the manager keeps on going and the new manager coming in is not given best in class.

Mykhaylo Mudryk Chelsea
Mykhaylo Mudryk has struggled since joining Chelsea.

“You talk about Mykhailo Mudryk, who Arsenal wanted. I am not sure he is (a great footballer). He certainly is not showing it at the moment.

“I think he would be a lot better in an Arsenal shirt than he would in a Chelsea shirt. That is an indictment of Chelsea.”

It is difficult to come to a conclusion about how Mudryk would have turned out at Arsenal.

However, in a more stable environment under a manager who has a clear vision of his philosophy like Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, the player could have performed much better.

Arsenal wanted to sign Mudryk but he joined Chelsea

The Gunners manager has been able to improve the level of his players, particularly in the last two seasons when they have fought for the Premier League title race against Manchester City.

Mudryk’s qualities as a player, his pace and dribbling skills, is something that the wide players at Arsenal are required to do and possibly Arteta would have managed to get the best out of him.

The player’s lack of playing time in the starting line up at Chelsea seems to have affected his confidence hugely.

Most Arsenal fans will probably agree that they could’ve done with a new striker this summer, and one of the names linked with them a few times was Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international made a real impression in his first season in Portugal last term, and that led to the Gunners apparently making him their top target up front at one point in the summer, according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

For one reason or another, the deal never happened, and now Gyokeres’ incredible early-season form will surely be filling Arsenal with regret.

See below as Fabrizio Romano highlights just how electrifying Gyokeres has been for club and country in his last seven games, contributing a remarkable ten goals and five assists in that time…

The big unknown, of course, is whether or not Gyokeres could repeat this kind of form in the Premier League, as it would obviously represent quite a big step up from playing in Portugal, not to mention against international sides as weak as Azerbaijan and Estonia.

The 26-year-old is clearly too good for the current level he’s playing at, though, so it would surely make sense for him to look for a big move soon in order to challenge himself, which might mean Arsenal and other top clubs get the chance to try for him again in the near future.

Gyokeres transfer: Should Arsenal swoop for Sporting striker?

Gyokeres won’t be the only name on Arsenal’s radar, so some fans might feel there are better options out there, with sources telling CaughtOffside that Benjamin Sesko and Marcus Thuram could be the main two names to watch.

Viktor Gyokeres was linked with Arsenal in the summer

AFC would also surely do well to keep monitoring Gyokeres as well, though, as form like this is going to make him very hard to ignore.

It’s been quite the journey for the former Coventry City man, who not that long ago couldn’t get a game for Brighton before needing to move to the Championship to show what he could do.

With only Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus to choose from up front, it’s hard to imagine Gyokeres wouldn’t have added something to Mikel Arteta’s side this season, even if his numbers perhaps wouldn’t quite be as ridiculous as these if he were playing in a more competitive league.
