England captain Harry Kane is set to become the 10th player to earn a landmark 100 caps for the Three Lions against Finland at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night and the striker is “extremely proud” of the achievement.

The Bayern Munich striker is one of the best players England has ever produced and that is backed up by his sensational goal record. Across the 562 club matches he has featured in throughout his career, the 31-year-old has netted 353 times alongside a further 91 assists.

For his national team, Kane is England’s all-time top scorer with 66 goals in 99 internationals and his achievements with the Three Lions will continue on Tuesday as the former Tottenham star will receive his 100th cap.

The FA will pay tribute to the striker before the UEFA Nations League fixture against Finland with a special pre-match ceremony that will include the presentation of a gold cap.

Kane is the first player to become an England men’s centurion since Wayne Rooney reached the milestone in November 2014.

Peter Shilton leads the way with 125 caps and that is a landmark achievable by the 31-year-old but for now, the Bayern Munich star is “extremely proud” of hitting the 100 mark.

Harry Kane admits to being “extremely proud” of 100th England cap

Kane is expected to start against Finland at Wembley and has been speaking about the landmark moment in his career ahead of the game on Tuesday night.

The striker has told the press via Sky Sports: “It’s really special, I think It’s hard to sink in while you are still playing and whilst these moments come.

“This is one I am extremely proud of. I think it shows great consistency over a long period of time. When you look at some of the other players who have achieved it, they are some of our greatest-ever players, so It is something I am really excited for.

“I’ll have my family there to enjoy the moment as well. I think for sure, that moment when I am retired, I’ll probably look back on it with immense pride.”

Anthony Gordon’s second-half performance against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday has been described as ‘terrible’ by talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham.

The Three Lions beat the Boys in Green 2-0 in Dublin in Lee Carsley’s first game as interim manager following the departure of Gareth Southgate.

England’s goals came through two controversial figures, with Jack Grealish and Declan Rice — two players with famous Irish roots and experience in their youth and senior systems — deciding the match.

Gordon enjoyed a positive night in just his fifth England appearance and first competitive start for his country.

The Newcastle United winger created two chances and hit the target with all three of his attempted shots, while he completed 90% of his passes, had eight touches in the opposition box and was involved in the build-up to Rice’s opening goal.

However, most of Gordon’s best moments came before the break, with the 23-year-old fading in the second half before being brought off in the 77th minute.

Newcastle star Gordon goes from ‘terrific’ to ‘terrible’

Anthony Gordon of England is challenged by Will Smallbone of Republic of Ireland during the UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League B Group B2 match between Republic of Ireland and England at Aviva Stadium on September 07, 2024 in Dublin, Ireland.

Gordon was given a 7/10 by Durham for his player ratings.

But while the outspoken pundit credited the former Everton man for his first-half performance, he wasn’t afraid to make his feelings known about the second half.

“He was terrific in the first half but terrible in the second half,” said Durham.

Despite a supposed ‘terrible’ second half, Gordon did more than enough against Ireland to suggest he should have been given more than just one minute at Euro 2024.

He will hope to play a prominent role again when England host Finland at Wembley on Tuesday in their second UEFA Nations League B Group 2 match.

England men’s under-18s were in action against France on Sunday and the match saw Liverpool youngster Trey Nyoni get on the scoresheet once again.

The 17-year-old impressed during the Reds’ pre-season preparations and has caught the eye of new boss Arne Slot. The Premier League giants have high hopes for his future and the Englishman is also performing on the international stage.

Nyoni scored in England’s under-18s’ 2-2 draw with Portugal on Wednesday and the Reds star has found the net again against France just days later.

The 17-year-old impressively fired in a second-half goal before it was cancelled out by a quickfire equaliser from Enzo Molebe as the match ended 1-1.

The latest on free agents and potential transfers

The market remains open for free agents like Adrien Rabiot, who has again said no to Turkish opportunities like Galatasaray in the last 24 hours. There have been many reports, but the fact remains that Rabiot has no plans to go to Turkey as he is waiting for an opportunity in one of the top five leagues.

As of today, Rabiot is also still not opening the doors to clubs from Saudi Arabia either, so Europe remains his priority, and let’s see what happens on that front in the next days.

Meanwhile, another free agent is Memphis Depay and he is expected to complete a move to Corinthians on a two-year deal in the coming days. They are preparing all the documents and finalising the details, then Depay to Corinthians should be a ‘here we go’.

Negotiations are also ongoing over Anthony Martial and a possible move to Flamengo on a free transfer. There’s an interest from Martial, and it now depends on the financial final proposal to get it done. Pedro injured his ACL and Flamengo need a striker, so they immediately got in touch with Martial’s camp to discuss terms. Talks continue.

What’s going on at Chelsea?

There have been many reports about the ownership situation at Chelsea. It’s not really my area, as you know I’m focused on transfers, but what’s being claimed is that there is a risk of a ‘civil war’ between owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. So, what does it mean?

It’s a tense situation as it’s being reported that Boehly and Eghbali both want to buy out the other’s stake in the club to take full ownership. We’ll see how it develops, and I don’t have any fresh information on this issue, but what I can clarify is that on the technical side at Chelsea, the mission remains the same.

The new Chelsea owners have put together a new board, and they are still working on finding the best young talents as we’ve seen from the last few years, with players like Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez, as we saw meeting at international level in the game between Brazil and Ecuador, they are the future of Chelsea, and for now the ownership situation is not affecting the transfer strategy or technical project at Stamford Bridge.

So, for today the Chelsea project is absolutely not changing – they are working on the best talents for a long-term project, for the present and future, but of course if this changes I will keep you updated.

Frenkie de Jong linked with Manchester United again

Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona

We once again this summer had many stories about Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona, and there were new links with Manchester United, as we’ve so often seen before.

The latest we’ve heard is that Man United made some contact with De Jong during a moment when they weren’t so sure if the Manuel Ugarte deal was going to happen. However, I can tell you that this summer, the reality is that there was absolutely nothing.

There was zero between De Jong and Man United, because the reality is that De Jong never wanted to leave Barcelona. De Jong is fully focused on Barcelona, and it’s also important to note that he’s too expensive for Man United – his salary is very high and so it was something impossible for United this summer.

We’ll see what happens in the future, but this summer it was also the case that United wanted a different kind of midfielder anyway, more of a defensive midfielder than De Jong. Ugarte was the only option, their top target, and so there was never any possibility to go for De Jong – between United, Ten Hag, De Jong, the player’s agents, there was absolutely zero.

Aurelien Tchouameni Real Madrid exit looks unlikely

Aurelian Tchouameni is a player we know has had admirers in the Premier League in the past before he ended up at Real Madrid, but there have once again been reports about possible interest from Arsenal and Liverpool for summer 2025, so I wanted to clarify something here.

It’s true that two years ago Tchouameni had the opportunity to join Liverpool before then going to Real Madrid. Jurgen Klopp was calling the player on a daily basis, trying to change his mind, but the Frenchman was clear that he only wanted to go to Real Madrid.

As for now, I can guarantee that nothing has changed between Tchouameni and Real Madrid – their relationship is fantastic. Tchouameni is very happy at Real Madrid, and only focused on Real Madrid. Also Real Madrid, the president, manager Carlo Ancelotti, the technical staff, they all love Tchouameni. From what I hear he’s a really professional guy, and popular with his teammates in the dressing room.

So, forget about rumours about Tchouameni – as of now, there is no expectation for him to leave. Of course I can’t predict what can happen in the future, but at the moment the intension is absolutely for Tchouameni and Real Madrid to continue together.

Bayern considered Inter left-back

Federico Dimarco scored a fantastic goal for Italy in their win over France, and in general he continues to be a strong performer for his country, as well as for his club Inter Milan. Although he has a strong relationship with Inter, I can also reveal there as interest in him earlier in the summer.

Although there was never a negotiation, Bayern Munich discussed internally the possibility of moving for Dimarco as they considered replacements at left-back in case Alphonso Davies were to leave the club amid the interest from Real Madrid.

Dimarco was one of the names discussed by Bayern, though not the only one, he was one of three names, but they never ended up making contact with Inter because Davies ended up staying, and also because Dimarco was never going to leave Inter. Their relationship is really strong, they absolutely want to continue together.

Still, Bayern thought about this possibility, and let’s see if they look into it again depending on what happens with Davies next summer. It’s important, however, to say that from Dimarco and Inter’s perspective, there is absolutely no intention to part ways.

The latest on Jamal Musiala’s future

We continue to see stories about Jamal Musiala, which is normal given his superb performances and his current contract situation at Bayern Munich, with his deal due to expire in 2026.

Bayern have been pushing for months to extend Musiala’s contract and this remain one of their main missions. Bayern will insist again with a big proposal; he’s in the list of all the top European clubs, this is very normal, but it all depends on what happens with Bayern in talks.

I can also confirm some other Bayern reports, as Bild have claimed Federico Chiesa was an option for them earlier in the summer, before he ended up joining Liverpool.

Bayern were offered this possibility in June but their top target was always a different kind of player like Olise. Different player, different skills. They appreciated Chiesa but they were not looking for that kind of player.

Thoughts on England as Lee Carsley opens with win

Finally, England had a convincing 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland yesterday, with Declan Rice and Jack Grealish scoring the goals.

Overall I thought it was a very good performance. “Impressed” would probably be a bit too much, as it was a normal game with zero pressure, but still a good performance for sure.

Declan Rice’s development has been great this year, he’s progressed really well at Arsenal and for sure he’s one of the best midfielders around now. He took his goal well and continues to be a key player for England.

On Lee Carsley, I still think it’s a very open race for the manager’s job and nothing is decided yet for the permanent job.

Fabrizio Romano insists there is currently no major update on the England manager’s job, claiming that it’s a very open race to succeed Gareth Southgate.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that it’s a bit too early to know for sure what’s going to happen with current caretaker manager Lee Carsley, even if there were some promising signs from the team in the 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland yesterday.

Carsley has done impressive work with the England Under-21s and has long been talked up as a possible contender to take over from Southgate permanently, but it seems no decision has been made yet.

Romano did not mention other specific names for the moment, with things clearly still at an early stage and open for the time being, with a fairly straightforward win over Ireland perhaps not the kind of game on which to base big decisions like this.

Lee Carsley to be next England manager?

Fabrizio Romano on the England manager situation

“England had a convincing 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland yesterday, with Declan Rice and Jack Grealish scoring the goals,” Romano said.

“Overall I thought it was a very good performance. “Impressed” would probably be a bit too much, as it was a normal game with zero pressure, but still a good performance for sure.

“On Lee Carsley, I still think it’s a very open race for the manager’s job and nothing is decided yet for the permanent job.”

England fans will no doubt be divided on the situation, with some likely to feel Carsley could be ideal as the perfect follow-up to Southgate, while others would surely prefer a big name with more experience.

Man United are reportedly keeping an eye on the contract situation of Lewis Dunk at Brighton as the Manchester club plans to add an experienced centre-back to their squad next summer.

The England international’s current deal with the Seagulls expires in 2026, which means next summer would be the ideal time to sell the defender if a new contract cannot be agreed.

According to Fichajes, Man United are interested in signing Dunk next summer because of his “experience and leadership.” These are qualities the Red Devils may need to add to their backline as this season could be the last at Old Trafford for the likes of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Centre-back has been a problem area for Erik ten Hag since he arrived in Manchester and he addressed the issue over the summer by adding Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro to his squad.

Dunk would provide cover next season for the new United signings should he arrive in Manchester but many things can happen between now and then before a deal for the Englishman can even be considered.

Would Brighton’s Lewis Dunk be a good signing for Man United?

Dunk has been with Brighton since 2010 and has racked up a massive 462 appearances for the Seagulls. The 32-year-old has been a solid player since he arrived in the Premier League and has become known for his goal threat as the centre-back has netted 31 times throughout his career.

The Englishman would be a useful signing for Man United should they go down this path as Dunk has experience, is a good defender, and carries a goal threat.

This would allow Man United to rest Yoro or De Ligt from time to time and a deal for the 32-year-old should not be too costly either. However, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils make a move for the Brighton captain in 2025 as others could also join the race should the centre-back become available.

Arsenal star Declan Rice has stated that he has “taken another step” towards feeling like himself after putting in a world-class display against Ireland in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.

The midfielder stepped into a hostile atmosphere at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and put in a Man of the Match display as England claimed all three points with a 2-0 win.

The Arsenal star ran the show as he opened the scoring in the first half before assisting Jack Grealish minutes later. In the aftermath of the victory, Rice stated that he feels back to his best as he hinted that he has not been fully fit during the opening part of the Premier League season.

“To be honest with you, I’ve not been feeling 100 per cent fit so far,” the Gunners star told Sky Sports. “I’ve kind of been using the Premier League as my pre-season but today I feel I took a real step, I could feel it within myself.

“I was feeling back to myself, feeling springy, feeling like I could run around the pitch, feeling more powerful.

“On a personal note, it was really good to get that game in today and play 90, because I feel like I’ve taken another step and that is going to help me at Arsenal.”

These words should excite Arsenal fans as Rice is a crucial part of Mikel Arteta’s squad and the midfielder performing at his best will go a long way in helping the North London club to try and win the Premier League this season.

England were victorious in their opening match of the UEFA Nations League against Ireland on Saturday in Dublin and the match was a memorable one for several reasons.

The game saw new Three Lions coach Lee Carsley make his debut in the dugout of an England match, while Ireland were being managed by Heimir Hallgrimsson for the first time.

In addition to this, Jack Grealish and Declan Rice returned to Ireland to face the nation they used to represent and were met with a very hostile atmosphere. The English duo would go on to silence the home crowd as both players scored in the 2-0 win.

Finally, the national anthems were ones to remember as the Irish fans drowned out God Save the King with a chorus of boos.

There is no love lost for England on the Green Isle given their history of occupying Ireland for over 700 years and the locals made that known on Saturday in Dublin when the time came for the national anthems to be sung as the English anthem was barely heard.

England interim manager Lee Carsley experienced an awkward moment ahead of his debut match in charge.

As he prepared for the Nations League opener at the Aviva Stadium, the 50-year-old mistakenly sat in the home team’s dugout.

After being informed of his error, Carsley initially laughed it off with a smirk but quickly composed himself and moved to the correct dugout.

Despite the brief moment of embarrassment, he handled the situation well before kick-off. Watch below:

Carsley took over as England manager after Gareth Southgate stepped down following their Euro 2024 final loss to Spain.

The former Irish player is said to be on a six-match trial, with his future in the role depending on the results.

Ireland’s clash with England at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin is turning into a nightmare for the home fans as the villains of the day Jack Grealish and Declan Rice have both got on the scoresheet in the UEFA Nations League clash.

The two England stars used to represent Ireland at youth level, with the Arsenal star also featuring in several senior games, before switching their allegiances to England. This did not go down well with Irish fans and they have made their feelings clear throughout Saturday’s match with both players being met with a course of boos.

Ireland fans’ worst nightmare has become reality inside the opening 26 minutes of the game as both Rice and Grealish have got on the scoresheet.

The Arsenal star opened the scoring after 11 minutes and 15 minutes later, the midfielder combined with Grealish to double the Three Lions’ lead as part of an impressive move.
